This may surprise you, but tech companies need more than a handful of superstar software engineers to survive. They also need talented marketers to help build their brand and make their product and technology visible to the masses. If you’re a marketing maven looking for the next big career move, the following five companies are a great place to start looking.

The gig: Social media specialist

What they do: Invaluable is an online marketplace for fine art, antiques and collectibles.

What you’d do: As social media expert, you’d help the marketing team manage the strategy and content for Invaluable’s social media channels, as well as those for their sister web property, AuctionZip. In this role, you’d help deliver social media strategies and campaigns, as well as create digital content with a focus on art, collectibles and antiques on a daily basis.

What you’ll need: This role requires a strong understanding of social media tools including Hootsuite, Buffer, Google Analytics, Facebook Power Editor and more. You should also have outstanding written, verbal and organizational skills.

The gig: Marketing operations lead

What they do: Verndale is a marketing technology agency that designs, builds and evolves brand experiences for mid-sized and Fortune 500 companies, bringing their products and services to life for customers.

What you’d do: This role will be tasked with becoming the ‘trusted advisor’ with clients and will be expected to have a deep knowledge and understanding of all aspects of digital marketing. In this role, you should be comfortable with communicating the vision and benefits of various categories of digital marketing platforms and have hands-on experience with at least one platform in each category.

What you’ll need: Ideally, this person will have five to 10 years of experience in technical marketing platforms like marketing automation, SEO tools/ platforms, email marketing, social media marketing, pay-per-click advertising and CRM.

The gig: Product marketing manager

What they do: Promoboxx is a brand-to-retailer commerce platform that connects national manufacturing brands with independent, specialty retailers to increase local awareness and sales.

What you’d do: Reporting to the VP of Marketing, you’d own key product marketing, as well as sales and account management enablement functions, including driving market intelligence, go-to-market strategy and overall messaging and positioning. The ideal candidate is collaborative and an expert on the buyer journey.

What you’ll need: Ideally, three to five years of SaaS product marketing experience at a high growth B2B software company.

The gig: Senior global campaign manager, growth marketing

What they do: Zuora provides relationship business management services, with the idea that customers are happier subscribing to a service on a recurring basis than they are purchasing a product once. The company’s cloud-based technologies start with the individual subscriber's experience.

What you’d do: You’d be responsible for the overall strategy, development, execution and optimization of global integrated marketing campaigns. You’ll also be tasked with determining and developing campaigns (including strategy, messaging and marketing) to land, nurture and close new business and expand opportunities within existing accounts.

What you’ll need: This role requires 10-plus years of marketing communications and campaign management experience. Ideally, this candidate should also have experience building global integrated marketing campaigns for a B2B technology company.

The gig: Growth marketing manager

What you’d do: You’ll lead development and execution of lead generation campaigns across all channels. You’ll also be responsible for executing programs for inbound, outbound and ongoing prospect and customer nurturing through content marketing, email, web, social and events.

What you’ll need: This role requires three to five years of demand generation marketing experience in tech, preferably in the martech or adtech space. A bachelor’s degree in marketing or business is also preferred.
