This summer, a pair of local tech companies scored some notable wins.

When the latest edition of the Inc. 5000 dropped in August, for example, accounts payable-focused fintech company MineralTree notched the 846th ranking on the list.

Meanwhile, in June, digital learning platform Skillsoft announced its $22 million acquisition of coaching tool Pluma just weeks after making its appearance on the NYSE.

“We are committed to accelerating our growth by acquiring businesses with comprehensive, industry-leading content and solutions that will benefit our current and future customers,” Skillsoft CEO Jeff Tarr said in a release announcing the news.

Here’s a deeper look at Skillsoft and MineralTree, Built In Boston’s featured companies of the month.

What they do: Want to learn Python programming? Figure out the art of product management? Level up your communication skills? Firms can use the edtech company’s courses to help team members stay sharp through courses focused on learning, development and business, compliance and technology.

Thought leadership: CMO Michelle Boockoff-Bajdek previously shared her branding expertise with Built In Boston when discussing the Skillsoft rebrand she spearheaded. “A brand shouldn’t focus on what the organization wants but rather what the customer needs,” Boockoff-Bajdek said. “We want our customers to view Skillsoft as a company they are proud of working with, that reflects their values, and most importantly understands and acknowledges their needs.”

From the team: DevOps is a discipline many organizations embrace these days, and one Skillsoft is no stranger to. Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins and Git are core parts of the toolkit, according to Senior Director of Software Engineering Anil D’silva. “Since mid-2020, the DevOps and operations teams at Skillsoft have invested heavily in building a common model and toolchain for all environments to follow in terms of configuration and infrastructure management,” D’silva previously told Built In Boston.

Current openings: Engineering, marketing and operations are a few departments looking to bolster their ranks

What they do: Many parts of the accounts payable ecosystem can make for a laborious undertaking. MineralTree looks to reverse that through its automation-focused platform that makes handling invoices more efficient.

Thought leadership: Simplification is core to MineralTree. “Our mission at MineralTree is to revolutionize B2B commerce by making it easier for companies to do business with each other. In 2021, that means continuing our journey of making technology easy to use and accessible across businesses of all sizes,” CEO Micah Remley told Built In Boston at the beginning of this year.

From the team: Success is rooted in teamwork — something Director of Implementation and Sales Engineering Nick Rand described to Built In Boston as being at no shortage at the company. “I love seeing the entire team working together to solve a problem, regardless of whose customer base it affects. MineralTree has always fostered this environment, which is much of the reason why I’ve succeeded here and have been able to progress into my current role,” Rand said.

Current openings: While the organization is hiring for a number of different teams at the moment, talented sales professionals should take note — there are currently a host of roles for that function.
