Aiven, a company that provides a one-stop shop for cloud services on a global scale, announced on Friday that it has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round.

Founded in 2016, Aiven provides a database-as-a-service platform, where companies can hop from Amazon Web Services to Microsoft Azure to access their data, and choose from a toolbox of open source tools like Kafka, MySQL, ElasticSearch and more.

Each can be wielded to create a customizable cloud experience.

We see a tremendous number of companies around the world now implementing their new real-time data platforms in the cloud.”

As more and more companies migrate to the cloud for their data needs, demand for cloud coverage spans the globe. Aiven meets those customers where they are, allowing them to choose among 85 regions to host their cloud services based on preferences for latency, price or regulations.

With this funding round, the Helsinki and Boston-based company plans expand its global reach and add on additional features.

In a statement, Aiven co-founder and CEO Oskari Saarenmaa said he sees the need for global cloud coverage only expanding in the future.

“We see a tremendous number of companies around the world now implementing their new real-time data platforms in the cloud. The new funding will allow us to better cater to their requirements,” Saarenmaa said in the statement.

Since Aiven’s launch, companies like Atlassian, Comcast and OVO Energy have all adopted its platform. The company has now raised a total of $11 million.

Moving forward, Aiven plans to expand its open source tools and further enable customers to create new applications.

EarlyBird Venture Capital led the round, with participation from Lifeline Ventures and Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa. EarlyBird Ventures co-founder and partner Hendrik Brandis also joined Aiven’s board of directors as part of the round.
