Java and Collections: Evolution of the Collections API, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

The Boston Java Meetup Group is hosting a discussion about the evolution of the Java language and features included in the coming Java 10 release in 2018. This talk will cover new ideas and features surrounding the Java language, such as streams and functional programming paradigms. Attendees will leave understanding why with each release, Java is becomingly increasingly popular and developer friendly.

Tech Book Club: Async and Online Communication in Engineering Orgs, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

Women Who Code at ezCater is relaunching their tech book club for 2018. This month, they will be diving into Leah Fassler's article, "Your Company's Slack is Probably Sexist." Join the group for a moderated discussion on the topic of online communication at engineering organizations. Food and drink will be provided.

Product Roadmaps, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Product Tank Boston is hosting a talk in which product leaders will talk about their views on product roadmaps. Featured speaker C. Todd Lombardo, head of product and experience at Workbar, will share his thoughts on building and mentoring teams in areas of user experience design, product management and product strategy. 

New Year, Bigger Network: 3rd Annual Winter Mixer, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.

Tech in Motion is hosting their first mixer of 2018, so jobseekers and techies should stop by for some networking fun. Even if you're not actively looking for a job, attend and learn about tech trends and Boston's growing startup scene. The event is at Tasty Burger in Harvard Square, so come hungry and don't forget your business cards. 

Code & Coffee: Brand, UX, UI: How Do They All Relate?, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Girl Develop It Boston is hosting a discussion about the difference between "brand," "UX," and "UI," and how using the three together can contribute to a better product. Ani Avanian, creative director and head of UX at Wanderu, will share her experience designing the company's visual brand identity, e-commerce website and apps. She has over 10 years of experience working in the design field and is passionate about making memorable experiences for users.
