Funding frenzy: Boston tech pulled in $119M this April

VCs showered Boston tech in funding this April, with big wins in industries like health tech and travel tech. Five startups, including Freebird and ZappRx, raised a total of $119 million in funding. Here were the top five rounds.

5. Freebird, $5M, April 26

Investors: Co-led by Accomplice and General Catalyst

Bio: Freebird is a Cambridge-based startup that helps travelers instantly rebook canceled or delayed flights with its app.

News: The new funding will go toward product development, hiring and forming more partnerships with corporate travel agencies, a Freebird spokesman said.

 

OM1

4.  OM1, $15M, April 7

Investors: Led by General Catalyst with participating from Glikvest, 7wire Ventures and Wanxiang Healthcare Investments

Bio: Cambridge-based OM1 is a predictive analytics startup that provides healthcare outcomes information.

News:  With the funding, OM1 will continue to build out its outcomes measurement and machine learning technology.

 

zappRX

3. ZappRx, $25M, April 20

Investors: Led by Qiming US Healthcare Fund, with participation from SR One and GV (formerly Google Ventures)

Bio: ZappRx provides prescription management software for specialty drugs. Their technology takes care of extensive paperwork so professionals can focus on treatment for complex conditions in categories like oncology and pulmonology.

News: The new infusion of capital will assist in accelerating the company’s current product launch.

2. Reflexis Systems, $33M, April 3

Investors: Great Hill participated in the round, as well as previous Reflexis investor Sageview Capital.

Bio: Dedham-based Reflexis Systems provides workforce management software to some of the country’s largest retailers.

News: According to the SEC filing, $10.3 million of the new investment will go toward payments for members of Reflexis' senior management team.

 

sea street

1. Sea Street Technologies, $41M, April 12

Investors: Not disclosed

Bio: Founded by former Cisco exec Harley Stowell, Sea Street Technologies helps the world’s largest networking companies design the operational lifecycle of their IT footprint and render that design into policy across all applications and platforms continuously.

News: The startup raised the funding as it came out of stealth mode and boasts big customers like Cox Communications.
