SmartBear, a company that provides automation, development and monitoring tools to help software developers build better software and applications, recently announced an eco-friendly update to its headquarters in Somerville.

The company’s office in Assembly Row is now fully powered by renewable energy sources including wind, solar and hydropower. This transition was made possible by the Somerville Community Choice Electricity, or CCE, program and will help SmartBear meet its sustainability goals.

SmartBear launched its environmental, social and governance, or ESG, program in early 2022. Since then, the company has made efforts to demonstrate environmentally conscious practices to help meet its goals. For instance, the company minimizes energy usage through its location in a LEED Gold building, and has eliminated single-use plastics in its office. Additionally, SmartBear has employees who volunteer for litter cleanup at Draw Seven State Park every Earth Day.

“At SmartBear, sustainability is not just a buzzword — it’s a commitment from all of us around the world,” Frank Roe, CEO of SmartBear, said in a statement. “Our thanks to the Somerville CCE program as we take this important step toward more environmental responsibility at our headquarters office. We look forward to even more ESG initiatives in the coming year.”
