Summary:
The Vice President of Finance is a senior leader responsible for all aspects of Verastem’s financial operations, reporting, and strategic decision support in the public biotech environment. Reporting to the CFO and managing both the Controller and FP&A team, this role is structured to serve as the principal internal finance leader and potentially serve as a visible external company representative. Over time, the candidate in partnership with the CFO, will build and support a strong company narrative for the investment community, drive capital strategy, and play a role in market-facing engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Finance organization, including direct oversight of the Controller and FP&A teams.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting in accordance with SEC, GAAP, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning to support portfolio development and commercialization strategies.
- Partner with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to provide transparent, actionable financial insights and reporting packages.
- Direct the preparation of quarterly earnings materials, investor relations financial data, and board presentations.
- Manage internal controls, accounting policies, and audit processes to safeguard company assets.
- Support capital raising efforts, including equity and debt transactions, through scenario modeling and financial due diligence.
- Drive operational efficiency across G&A functions by optimizing finance processes, systems, and resource allocation.
- Mentor and develop finance staff, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA highly preferred.
- 12+ years in progressive finance leadership roles, with significant experience in a public company environment.
- Strong understanding of biotech industry financial drivers, including R&D capitalization, clinical trial budgeting, and commercialization economics.
- Expertise in SEC reporting, internal controls, and GAAP compliance.
- Demonstrated success managing both accounting and FP&A functions.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment, balancing strategic and tactical priorities.
