We are seeking a Senior Research Manager to lead a team of research scientists who conduct cutting-edge research in human physiology, wearable technology, and health data. This role will oversee the design, execution, and dissemination of high-quality research while ensuring operational rigor, compliance, and alignment with WHOOP’s product and research strategy. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in research operations and biomedical data with strong leadership skills and the ability to translate strategy into impact.
As a Research Manager at WHOOP, you’ll play a critical role in advancing our mission to unlock human performance. You will not only shape the direction of research but also empower your team to translate data into discoveries that impact both science and the daily lives of our members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage a team of research scientists, fostering career growth, mentorship, and a culture of scientific excellence.
- Oversee the end-to-end research process, including study design, IRB submissions, informed consent, data management, and publication.
- Ensure research conducted meets the highest standards of scientific integrity, compliance, and quality.
- Develop and implement research strategy in alignment with WHOOP’s product and organizational priorities.
- Cultivate external research partnerships by drafting scoping documents, evaluating potential collaborators, and fostering strong academic and clinical relationships.
- Guide the team in analyzing biometric and health data, supporting the development of novel applications and insights around wearable data.
- Promote dissemination of WHOOP research through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and industry engagement.
- Represent WHOOP Research at academic and industry conferences, presenting findings and building thought leadership in the field; quarterly travel expected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred; Master’s with significant experience considered) in a relevant field such as Physiology, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with research operations, including IRB processes, informed consent, data governance, and publications, with a successful track record of leading research in an industry setting.
- Proficiency in statistical programming (R, Python, SQL) and experience working with large-scale datasets.
- Strong understanding of human physiology, biometric data, and health data research.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow a team of scientists.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience building external research collaborations with academic or clinical partners.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

At WHOOP, we view total compensation as the combination of base salary, equity, and benefits, with equity serving as a key differentiator that aligns our employees with the long-term success of the company and allows every member of our corporate team to own part of WHOOP and share in the company’s long-term growth and success.
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000-$175,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
