Skylight is a technology startup building the OS of the family. We make Skylight Calendar, the smart calendar loved by millions of families (plus Wired and the Wirecutter). Our latest product is Calendar 2, which just launched to rave reviews.
Skylight’s mission is to build the OS of the family. We make consumer products, like Skylight Frame and Skylight Calendar, that are loved by millions of people across the globe. Through a singular focus on care for our customers, Skylight has scaled from a school project to over $300M in annual revenue while being completely bootstrapped. We have a huge opportunity to make family life easier and more connected, and that’s why we have been working hard to expand our team.

We’re looking for a Director of Growth Marketing to own growth for our new product lines, starting with our latest launch, Skylight Buddy. Think of yourself as the CEO of acquisition for these products. You’ll own the paid acquisition strategy, decide how and when to scale, and balance the P&L alongside our New Business GMs as you shape how each product goes to market.

You’ll report functionally to the Director of Growth and work closely with GMs on product growth strategy.

This is a senior individual contributor role, with the opportunity to lead a small team or contractors as the businesses grow. You’ll set the strategy and do the work yourself, in the ad accounts and in the data. There’s no playbook to follow; you’ll be writing it.

This role is for you if:

  • You think in contribution margin and payback, not just CPA and ROAS
  • You’re a 0-to-1 builder who would rather build and run the engine than delegate and optimize
  • You want to take a product from early traction to efficient scale, and you have a point of view on when it’s ready

What you’ll own

  • Set and defend targets for CPA, MER and contribution. Work with GMs and Growth Finance to build the unit economics model for each new product (blended CAC, payback, contribution margin), and make the calls to scale up or pull back.
  • Work with GTM and GMs on launch plans, positioning, offer and pricing tests.
  • Translate volume, margin and inventory goals into channel strategy and budget. Partner with Demand Planning to reforecast when reality changes.
  • Find the channels where each product and its audience naturally fit. Test new channels quickly, scale the ones that work, and decide the order in which to expand.
  • Run paid channels – i.e. Meta, Google – hands-on and build a campaign structure that scales as products grow.
  • Run the creative machine for maximum learning. Set the hypotheses, brief internal and agency creative partners, and make the final call on what scales.
  • Own marketing measurement. Design incrementality tests and holdouts suited to early-stage products, and measure how spend drives sales at retail and on Amazon, not just DTC.
  • Collaborate closely with GMs and Product Marketing, feeding what you learn back into product positioning, the creative roadmap and the product roadmap.
  • Give leadership a clear weekly story: what happened, why it happened, and what we’ll do next.

Requirements
  • 7+ years in growth or performance marketing, including scaling a new product or business line from early traction to efficient scale
  • Has made P&L-level tradeoffs with Finance and GM-level stakeholders, beyond optimizing channel metrics
  • Has launched and scaled multiple paid channels (e.g., Meta, Google, TikTok, YouTube, AppLovin), picking them based on how well they fit the product and audience, and is still hands-on in the accounts
  • Deep fluency in unit economics: CAC, MER, contribution margin, payback and LTV
  • Strong creative instincts, with experience briefing creative teams and presenting what’s performing
  • Rigorous about measurement (MMM, MTA, incrementality), and knows the difference between a real result and a fluke
  • Pulls their own data and builds their own models
  • Bonus: consumer hardware, kids or family products, subscription attach, or retail launches

Benefits

Our competitive compensation package includes:

  • Competitive Salary + Equity Package
  • 401K matching
  • Wellness, learning, and home-office budgets
  • Health, Dental & Vision Medical Plans
  • Tremendous autonomy to set the direction of your work
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Company holidays on the first Friday of every month (Excluding November, December, and January)

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
