Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CS-CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

Within the CoE organisation, the Data and Digital Catalyst (DDC) organisation drives the modernisation of our computational and data ecosystems and integration of digital technologies across Research and Early Development to enable our stakeholders, power data-driven science and accelerate decision-making.

One of the Engineering Capability teams in the DDC Organization is called Solutions. The solutions team is building a modernized and interconnected computational and data ecosystem. On top of the Data Ecosystem we are building engineering solutions to accelerate the work done by our Computational and Bench Scientists and enable the work done on ML/AI. Our team specializes in building Data Pipelines and Applications for data acquisition, collection, storage, transformation, linkage and sharing.

The Opportunity
  • Provide technical leadership for our applications and their integrated ecosystem, driving strategy in close collaboration with partners.

  • Lead the modernization and deprecation of legacy systems to reduce technical debt and improve efficiency.

  • Identify and influence the adoption of key trends and technologies with a focus on Open Source, Cloud-first, API-first, and AI-first approaches.

  • Enhance our application architecture by leveraging standard patterns such as microservices and event-driven design.

  • Ensure our technical choices are innovative, interoperable, and consistent across diverse scientific domains from research to development.

  • Deliver on the goal of unifying diverse data sets through applications to support a wide range of scientific workflows and pipelines.

  • Build and mentor a strong, collaborative community of Full Stack Engineers, establishing best practices for coding, testing, and continuous delivery (CI/CD).

  • Facilitate the enablement and integration of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence models.

Who You Are

We are looking for a professional who brings a combination of technical expertise and leadership qualities. You are someone who can think strategically while acting with a sense of urgency. You have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, coupled with extensive experience in software engineering.

  • Demonstrated experience in application architecture, building complex, scalable, and secure data-centric solutions, ideally on a public cloud platform.

  • Proficiency as a Full Stack Engineer with hands-on experience in languages like Python or Java and familiarity with modern frontend, backend, database, and API technologies (e.g., Node.js, REST, GraphQL, SQL/NoSQL).

  • Proven ability to technically lead large, complex projects and influence technical decisions across multiple teams in a collaborative, global environment.

  • A passion for mentoring others, establishing software engineering best practices, and a history of successfully reducing technical debt.
