It was a warm weekend in Boston, and several local tech companies are heating up. From new employee perks to raising capital from actor Robert Downey Jr., catch up on the latest tech news. This is the Built In Boston weekly refresh.

ShipIn Systems announced a new employee perk. Newton-based ShipIn Systems is a fleet management platform used by the maritime industry. The company announced a new employee benefit called The Captain Program. This program allows employees a chance to become certified ship captains. The idea behind this program stems from ShipIn founder and CEO Osher Perry’s background as a sailor. [BostInno]

Boston Tech Quote of the Week

“If plant-based foods are going to make a real impact on sustainability, we need an approach that’s both delicious and nutritious. By focusing on both better tasting and healthier options, Motif is not only making a difference in products today but reimagining the future of tomorrow’s plant-based foods.” — Robert Downey Jr., founder of FootPrint Coalition Ventures

Motif FoodWorks gained funding. With the goal of making plant-based food taste better, Motif FoodWorks raked in new funding from Robert Downey Jr.’s VC firm Footprint Coalition. The amount of Footprint Coalition’s investment was not disclosed, but the Boston-based startup said it plans to put the fresh capital toward the “development of new-to-the-world plant-based food forms.” Motif FoodWorks currently focuses on alternative chicken, beef and pork.
