UFG is currently hiring for a VP, Reinsurance Operations. This is a senior leader responsible for end-to-end management and continuous improvement of the company’s Alternative Distribution (AD) business unit.  The AD business unit maintains a portfolio of treaty reinsurance, Funds-At-Lloyd’s (FAL), and Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) insurance and reinsurance risks.  Reporting to the Chief Reinsurance Officer, this role provides strategic direction and operational leadership for treaty administration, claims handling, accounting and reporting, and reinsurance analytics.

The VP ensures robust control frameworks, timely and accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, strong stakeholder relationships, efficient operational processes, prudent expense management, and claims oversight. The role combines technical reinsurance expertise with people leadership and cross-functional execution to optimize risk transfer, cost, and capital outcomes.

The VP is a strategic leader and project manager for large transformative reinsurance operations projects across the reinsurance ecosystem. The VP is responsible for providing operational leadership to produce, manage, and govern the company’s diverse AD portfolio.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Set strategy to manage the operational framework supporting the AD business unit.
  • Maintain controls, compliance, and audit readiness; own policy and procedure governance for AD operations.
  • Survey and assess the maturity of the assumed reinsurance ecosystem to recommend improvements with respect to people, processes, systems, and data.
  • Drive process automation, data quality, and systems improvements to increase efficiency and internal reporting capabilities.
  • Manage DUA programs and relationships, overseeing program agreements and ensuring commitments are upheld.
  • Oversee AD claims management responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with finance and actuarial to ensure accurate and timely external reporting of results.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal reporting mechanisms for AD business unit
  • Ensure the data integrity and manage the functionality of the reinsurance contract management system and other systems that will be developed to support the business.
  • Own the budget and expense planning for AD.
  • Develop and execute the annual AD audit plans in underwriting and claims with reinsurance clients and program managers.
  • Collaborate with management and executive leadership on strategies, policies and procedures to support AD and promote compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Regularly collaborate with Legal, Actuarial, Internal Audit, Claims, Technology and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with marketing to promote the brand, plan industry events, and position the business to grow and succeed.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team to ensure the appropriate skillsets exist to successfully execute the business plan and comply with internal and external controls and requirements.
  • Coordinate/complete special requests, projects, and reports as directed by executive management including evolving the reinsurance operations operating model.

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, actuarial science, insurance, or related field required; advanced degree or professional designation (CPCU, ACAS, FCAS, CPA) desirable

Certifications/Designations:

  • CPCU or other industry certifications preferred

Experience:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in property & casualty reinsurance operations, treaty administration, or reinsurance accounting
  • 8+ years in a senior leadership role preferred

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge of P&C treaty types (proportional and non‑proportional), facultative placements, retrocession, and reinsurance contract language
  • Demonstrated experience with ceded recoveries, reinsurance accounting, reserve credits, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive process improvement and automation, and partner effectively across underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, and external brokers.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and vendor management skills.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to present high level ideas in a consumable form to senior management and board of directors
  • Proven ability to exhibit thought leadership
  • Experience in control design, development, automation, and assessment in IT systems, process, and new implementations
  • Possess strong analytical, problem solving, project management and investigative skills
  • Holds strong interpersonal and professional communication skills
  • Experience with specialized tools, including Alteryx, Workiva, MS Office & Project, MS PowerShell, MS SQL Server
  • Knowledge and understanding of various IT disciplines (e.g., software development, infrastructure, operations, and information security

Pay Transparency Statement:

UFG Insurance is committed fair and equitable compensation practices. The estimated base salary range for this officer-level position is $163,000 - $286,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, individual qualifications and experience, internal equity, and market data.

In addition to base salary, UFG Insurance offers a comprehensive total rewards package that includes:
