Join cBEYONData’s digital transformation team as a UI/UX Designer on a high-visibility federal contract modernization effort. In this role, you’ll partner with product owners, analysts, and engineers to craft intuitive, accessible user experiences that drive adoption, improve mission outcomes, and reinforce SMX’s reputation for excellence in government digital services. If you’re passionate about solving complex usability challenges and seeing your designs deployed at scale, this is the opportunity to make a real impact.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, developers, and other stakeholders to define user needs and translate them into wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Plan and conduct user research activities (interviews, surveys, usability tests), synthesize findings, and articulate actionable design recommendations.
  • Create and maintain a consistent, scalable design system (UI components, pattern library) that aligns with both SMX brand standards and federal guidelines.
  • Ensure all designs meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements; partner with QA to validate compliance.
  • Iterate rapidly on designs based on user feedback, analytics data, and stakeholder reviews—balancing innovation with usability and technical feasibility.
  • Facilitate design workshops and presentations, clearly communicating rationale and advocating for user-centered outcomes.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos) to keep design work tightly integrated with development cycles.

 Required Skills/Experience:

  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)
  • Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on UI/UX design experience—portfolio must demonstrate end-to-end user-centered design solutions.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD (including prototyping and developer hand-off).
  • Solid experience conducting and applying results from user research and usability testing.
  • Understanding of Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards, with proven experience implementing accessible designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within Agile/Scrum environments—comfortable collaborating with developers on implementation.
  • Strong visual design skills: typography, color theory, layout, and information hierarchy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

 Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) or other federal design frameworks.
  • Experience building or maintaining component libraries (e.g., Storybook) and design tokens.
  • Basic front-end development knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to facilitate closer designer–developer collaboration.
  • Exposure to React or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience leveraging analytics tools (Google Analytics, Hotjar, FullStory) to inform design decisions.
  • Prior experience on federal or highly regulated digital modernization projects.
