We are looking for a highly motivated engineer to join our team and contribute to system testing at the intersection of software and hardware. This role will provide hands-on experience in establishing the tool and process that define how we test our Stretch warehouse robot throughout its development. You will help define and build the tools and infrastructure that enable hardware and software engineers on the team to run essential tests on an assortment of automated tools and systems, helping to bridge the gap between pure software testing and full-system validation.

Beyond the Stretch project, this role offers a great opportunity to learn best practices in testing at Boston Dynamics, working alongside experienced colleagues on the Spot and Atlas projects.

How you will make an impact:

  • Interface with, and help write tests for, Hardware In the Loop (HIL) systems

  • Contribute to our automation framework to improve, and scale out, our automated test coverage

  • Work across disciplines to define requirements and implement automated test cases

  • Support in creating automated test stands to streamline hardware characterization.

  • Participate in HW & SW root cause analysis efforts

  • Manage and maintain automation frameworks and tools

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience designing and/or testing complex software-based electromechanical products (e.g., aerospace, automotive, robotics)

  • 5+ years of experience with hardware-in-the-loop software development/testing

  • 5+ years of experience creating and operating a test stand as part of a product test program

  • Sufficient working knowledge of the varied disciplines within robotics to communicate effectively with electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, and test engineers.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and Shell scripting

  • Familiarity working with 3rd party API’s

  • Experience building and maintaining scalable test frameworks

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Direct experience developing and executing an integrated hardware/software test program for a robot or autonomous vehicle

  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, perception systems, and single board computers

  • Hands-on experience with robotic actuators including motors, encoders, and gearboxes.

  • Hands-on experience creating full system and sub-system automated tests with software based tools and technologies such as Selenium, Buildkite, Python, REST APIs, enterprise database platforms, and bash scripting

  • Additional familiarity in strictly typed coding languages such as C++ and C#

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The base pay range for this position is between $135,000 to $168,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience.  This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure.  Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
