Role Description

Form Energy is seeking a Staff Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of our iron-air battery cell. As part of our Reliability team, you will work closely with the Cell and Electrode Engineering teams to develop test plans, analyze data, and define critical design requirements. This role will require hands-on work in the lab and cross functional collaboration. You will evaluate, analyze, and propose design-for-reliability solutions to understand novel problems and increase the product lifetime. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Act as the primary authority on Design for Reliability (DfR) for critical battery components, mentoring peers and guiding cross-functional DFMEAs

  • Translate high-level product goals into rigorous reliability requirements and define the roadmap for verifying component lifetimes

  • Design and execute complex experiments and accelerated life tests (ALT) to uncover failure mechanisms

  • Perform advanced statistical analysis to translate test data into robust reliability and lifetime prediction models

  • Partner with design owners to de-risk and down-select next-iteration cell and electrode concepts based on reliability data and analysis

  • Partner with the Manufacturing, Process, and Quality teams to evaluate and improve reliability of the product being manufactured at our factory

  • Champion for safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes and test methods

What you'll bring:
  • Degree in Engineering or a related field with 7+ years of hands-on industry experience in product development and hardware reliability

  • Deep expertise in developing reliability test plans, accelerated life tests, and statistical data analysis packages (using JMP, Python, Minitab, or Reliasoft)

  • Strong understanding of Reliability and Quality fundamentals and industry best practices

  • Proven ability to independently advance experiments from conception through execution and root cause analysis

  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills with a track record of effectively sharing reliability concepts with diverse product teams

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
