About This Role

Corporate Development contributes to establishing Biogen’s corporate strategy and is responsible for the identification, assessment and negotiation of external opportunities to augment Biogen’s pipeline and well as integration of acquired companies and management of relationships with Biogen’s partners.

The Corporate Development Strategic Operations (CDSO) team is responsible for leading strategic process improvement initiatives and providing critical operational and project management support to the Corporate Development team, including Corporate Strategy and Integration, External Innovation, Business Development and Alliance Management.

The Sr. Project Manager will be accountable for supporting the project planning and execution of the cross-functional deal team activities and deliverables, working closely with leads within Corporate Development and key stakeholders from various areas of the organization to ensure efficient execution and delivery of external opportunity assessments and deal transactions. In addition, the Sr Project manager will support project planning and execution of workstreams to ensure efficient integration of M&A deals or separation of divesture opportunities, as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage cross-functional projects from initial assessment of external opportunities to deal signing, working in partnership with the leads from Corporate Development (External Innovation, Business Development, and Corporate Strategy)
  • Support diligence activities, coordinating with various functional teams internally and potential external partners to ensure comprehensive evaluation and assessment of external opportunities
  • Support Integration and Separation Management Office by coordinating functional or cross-functional workstreams and execution of deliverables in line with the integration project plan  
  • Coordinate preparation of the deal team and deliverables for Business Development governance committee interactions (EC level) adhering to committee timelines and expectations
  • Proactively and effectively manage project team collaboration, communication planning, and reporting within the team and across key cross-functional stakeholders. This includes high quality deal team meeting management (agenda management, meeting material preparation and organization, scheduling, meeting minutes, and effective action/decision/issue management).
  • Develop and maintain project plans and timelines
  • Identify, track, communicate, and manage key project activities and hold team members accountable for the timely completion of functional deliverables
  • Communicate project status, updates, and risks to key stakeholders clearly and accurately, ensuring functional awareness and alignment on key aspects of the project
  • Identify and resolve issues that may impact project success
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate Development business processes related to the assessment of external opportunities

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 7+ years’ experience with 3+ years’ experience in Business Operations and/or Project Management in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Understanding of drug discovery and development
  • Experience in program and project management and management of cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to apply best practice and knowledge of business challenges to improve process
  • Basic understanding of business development processes
  • Business and scientific acumen, with ability to understand the company’s strategic goals
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to facilitate and guide problem solving processes
  • Impacts the achievement of project objectives, adhering to functional policies
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to work across functions and communicate with executive levels of the organization
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence without authority
  • Ability to independently manage the core aspects of cross-functional projects, with guidance only in complex situations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, collaboration, project management and tracking tools

Preferred Skills

  • PMP certification preferred
  • Experience working in agile framework(s) recommended

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $140,000.00-$187,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
