Job Description

This role is based in our 275 Grove Street, MA office.

PharmaVoice is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Reporter to deliver timely, insightful, and impactful coverage of the biopharma and biotech industries. This role offers the opportunity to craft compelling enterprise stories, in-depth features, and occasional quick-turn news pieces that analyze the trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the pharmaceutical sector.

About the Role

As a Senior Reporter, you will take ownership of your beat, leveraging your industry knowledge, source-building expertise, and keen observations to pitch and pursue ambitious stories. You will be responsible for producing high-quality content that captures the impact of operational and leadership changes, groundbreaking research, drug developments, and policy or legislative shifts on the pharma industry.

This role also includes daily editing responsibilities, ensuring the highest standards of quality and consistency in our editorial output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Industry Coverage: Deliver enterprise reporting, in-depth features, and quick-turn news stories that provide valuable insights into the biopharma and biotech industries.
  • Source Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, newsmakers, and experts to stay ahead of emerging trends and developments.
  • Event Reporting: Attend and report on industry events, conducting interviews and gathering insights to inform your stories.
  • Editorial Collaboration: Work closely with the PharmaVoice team to brainstorm, plan, and execute larger editorial projects.
  • Editing Duties: Perform daily editing tasks to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with PharmaVoice’s tone and standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven Expertise: Demonstrated success in reporting and writing on the business of pharmaceuticals, with a strong portfolio of impactful stories.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep interest and understanding of key issues affecting pharma and biotech leaders, including:
    • Commercialization strategies
    • Drug research and development across various indications (e.g., oncology, obesity)
    • Regulatory trends and policy developments
    • The role of AI in pharma and biotech
    • Global industry dynamics, including the rise of China in the sector
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in interpreting and analyzing complex clinical trial data, scientific research, policy changes, earnings reports, and industry trends, with the ability to connect the dots and highlight their implications for stakeholders.
  • Beat Ownership: Ability to quickly take ownership of specific beats through original reporting and by cultivating relationships with key and diverse industry sources.
  • Deadline-Driven: Thrives in a fast-paced news environment, with strong time management skills and the ability to deliver high-quality stories under tight deadlines.
  • Editorial Skills: Experience in writing compelling web headlines and editing copy to ensure clarity, accuracy, and engagement.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of journalism experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to reporting on the pharma or life sciences industries.

The salary range for this role is $80,000- $94,000 based on experience.
