This is front-end product creation: you'll bring technical substance and inspiration to our creative efforts, focusing on technology and feasibility as we build the product roadmap, so what reaches the market is credible as well as exciting.
What You'll Get to Do
- Own the Floorcare roadmap's front-end technology and feasibility phase for our next generation of vacuums and floorcare products - complete system innovations that sit between the physical (mechanical) and system (sensors, software, batteries, connectivity, motors, airflow) elements of a cleaning system.
- Work the front-end product and engineering development phase, using ideation and innovation techniques to unlock and drive the roadmap alongside engineering and cross-functional PD, ID, Brand, and Test Kitchen teams in the US, UK, and China.
- Fail fast - drive ideas to a conclusion early via functional rigs, before handing part or complete product solution packages to the back-end implementation AD team.
- Tinker hands-on across short- and long-term projects, in the form of proof-of-concept rigs.
- Communicate ideas quickly and effectively through a mix of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions.
- Carry out design and engineering studies, independently and in teams, to solve technical or consumer issues - keeping user experience front and center at every stage, including cleaning performance, maneuverability, and ease of use.
- Collaborate with our global AD and CI teams so front-end sensibilities - the consumer-focused experience - drive our direction and survive all the way through development to a 5-star product.
- Coach and support your teammates, especially junior colleagues, and encourage their efforts.
- Balance and prioritize multiple workflows across projects alongside additional responsibilities, on fast-paced schedules and deadlines.
Experience & Technical Skills
- 5-8+ years of proven experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Electromechanical products in a product development environment - ideally including motorized floor-cleaning systems (vacuums, mops, or similar high-duty-cycle mechanical assemblies).
- Designing for plastic parts, including silicone, rubber, and injection molded parts.
- Working with IP teams to track prior art and identify novel or inventive solutions within the AD/R&D team.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or Creo.
- The ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions autonomously as part of a team.
- Comfort operating (with training) in the lab - building prototypes, running product testing, and developing and reporting findings with next steps.
- An appreciation for electrical engineering, software, and mechanical principles. An all-rounder of sorts.
- Bachelor's degree, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Industrial Design with a focus on engineering principles.
- Flexibility, resilience, and perseverance, with a positive attitude and an entrepreneurial nature - and a preference for collaboration. These are key to success at SharkNinja.
- Not afraid to fail fast, learn, and pivot.
- A proven problem-solver who can demonstrably generate and deliver solutions within project timelines.
- Judgment about which problems to solve and how to make daily progress, plus a real belief in iterating to prove out hypotheses.
- Continuous evaluation of design intent to achieve outstanding results for the business and the consumer.
- A growth mindset - you proactively build your own knowledge and actively seek coaching from others.
- Keen to join internal working groups outside your core role to improve processes, the working environment, and internal mindset.
