Job Description SummaryThe Senior Controls Engineer – Energy Storage Systems serves as a key member of the New Product Introduction (NPI) Controls Engineering Team within GE Vernova, operating in a global and collaborative environment. This role is responsible for developing and delivering innovative controls solutions for new Energy Storage initiatives while driving the continuous improvement of existing Solar & Storage Solutions. Scope of responsibility includes, but is not limited to, AC and DC systems, power conversion systems, plant-level controls, and integration with customer and supervisory control systems, ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-performing control architectures across the product portfolio.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical innovation and influence product direction for energy storage systems.
  • Lead development and validation of energy storage systems including auxiliary systems e.g. chillers, BMS.
  • Mentor other team members and provide technical oversight for development work.
  • Drive performance and reliability enhancements back to the product.
  • Understand the rules and regulations associated with regional electricity markets.
  • Support problem identification and resolution of new and installed products.
  • Have close interaction with customers to drive requirements and customer satisfaction.
  • Interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity.
  • Work across engineering and services organizations to prepare product-level documentation for installation, commissioning, and operations for use by internal GE employees and our customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with developing software & controls, with minimum 2 years dedicated to energy storage systems.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The preferred work location for US-based candidates is Niskayuna, NY; however, highly qualified remote candidates within the United States will be considered.

Desired Characteristics

  • Expert-level knowledge of energy storage controls, validation and verification, formal design methodology, systems integration, advanced controls or related technologies.
  • Expert in the application of GE’s MarkVIe product family and of GE’s Cimplicity software (SCADA).
  • Knowledge of power conversion systems and controls.
  • Knowledge of communication networks (copper, FO) and their design, SW and Hardware.
  • Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA and Modbus, as well as standard messaging protocols such as MQTT.
  • Experience with Matlab, Simulink, and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodology.
  • Technical project leadership experience.
  • Experience working cross-functionally between Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Logistics, Product Management, etc.
  • Strong ability to summarize and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences while articulating technical plans in a manner that reflects customer needs,
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with a passion for excellence and a proven ability to deliver high-quality results on schedule.
  • Self-start attitude.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
