Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Systems Test and Software Quality Assurance to join our Software Quality Assurance team within our Software Engineering organization. Your job will be to build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of senior system test and software quality engineers while driving the overarching software quality assurance vision. You will establish modern verification standards, quality gates, and compliance across multi-tiered software, hardware, and distributed automation platforms.

What we do

The Software Quality Assurance team is part of the Software Engineering organization and is responsible for validating complex, multi-system robotic solutions under realistic customer and site operating conditions. The team partners across Software Engineering, DevOps, Systems Architecture, and Site Operations/Customer Engineering to institutionalize quality-first engineering practices, strengthen release readiness, and ensure seamless site acceptance.

What you'll do

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of senior system test and software quality engineers, driving technical excellence, clear career progression, continuous learning, and high accountability.
  • Contribute to formulating and drive the overarching software quality assurance vision, establishing modern verification standards, quality gates, and compliance across multi-tiered software, hardware, and distributed automation platforms.
  • Architect and oversee realistic, site-level customer simulation environments to benchmark system scale, stress limits, peak throughput, latency, availability, bottlenecks, and error budgets.
  • Embed automated test frameworks, harnesses, emulators, and AI-assisted tooling into CI/CD pipelines, configuration management tools, and cloud/on-prem environments to enable continuous performance and regression testing.
  • Oversee comprehensive end-to-end test programs spanning microservices, event-driven messaging architectures, API layers, multi-system integrations, and joint System Integration Testing with customer stakeholders.
  • Decompose complex system roadmaps into phased subsystem test plans, manage execution timelines and dependencies, and direct Release Readiness testing using key customer and site deployment scenarios.
  • Partner across Software Engineering, DevOps, Systems Architecture, and Site Operations/Customer Engineering to assess risk, accelerate defect resolution, and maintain rapid feedback loops. Travel to Symbotic production sites may be required up to 10%.

What you'll need

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive quality assurance or test engineering experience, with a proven track record of directly managing, mentoring, and scaling a team of senior engineers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience leading customer-facing System Integration Testing and architecting realistic site-level simulation environments for complex operational workloads, stress limits, and peak throughput.
  • Expertise establishing and analyzing operational KPIs, including transaction throughput, end-to-end latency, error budgets, resource utilization, SLA/SLO performance, and data-driven release readiness gates.
  • Deep technical background validating distributed systems, microservices, Service-Oriented Architecture, REST/gRPC APIs, and asynchronous messaging brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AMQP.
  • Hands-on experience integrating test frameworks, emulators, and virtualized test harnesses into CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code environments, including Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Proficiency with basic SQL and comprehensive knowledge of Black Box, Backend/API, Regression, Integration, End-to-End, Load/Stress, Scale, and User Acceptance Testing; practical experience with AI-assisted QA tooling is preferred.

Our Environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client locations and company HQ.
  • Employees may be required to use a personal credit card for business travel expenses, which are reimbursed based on the program guidelines. Eligible employees may receive a corporate credit card based on role and travel requirements, but a personal credit card may be needed during onboarding until the corporate card is issued.
