As a Senior Certification Exam Developer, you will own and lead the end-to-end development of certification exams for the InterSystems community. You will design, develop, deliver, and continuously improve industry-standard certification exams that are valid, reliable, and defensible.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), certification management, and other internal stakeholders, while following internal quality processes and recognized industry standards for assessment and credentialing.
Your work directly supports the recognition of the skills and expertise of InterSystems customers and partners. This role requires the ability to understand software development concepts and effectively communicate with SMEs when designing and validating technical assessments.
This role is well suited for someone who enjoys structured problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous learning, and who wants to grow deep expertise in certification and assessment while owning meaningful, high-impact work.
Responsibilities
- Leads exam development processes to create industry-standard certification exams
- Conducts JTAs (job task analyses) to ensure exam design validity
- Scopes and defines exam content and engages with stakeholders
- Leads SMEs in question design and creation
- Writes and reviews questions using industry-standard processes
- Performs industry-standard cut-score analyses
- Leads exam beta testing, recruits, and provides support to beta candidates
- Maintains existing exams
- Authors questions and delivers certification exams using exam delivery system
- Provides customer support to exam candidates
- Works with other certification team members, and follows exam development best practices
- Works with certification management to ensure exam uptake
- Periodically assesses the success of the Certification Program using reports and makes recommendations for improvement
- Develops certification paths for learner roles
Required Qualifications:
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate software development concepts such as object-oriented programming, data structures, system architecture, and deployment
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with SMEs and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to clarity and detail
- Strong organizational and data presentation skills
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly, adapt to change, and work effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrated interest in learning, assessment, or professional development; we are willing to train the right candidate in areas where they lack experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing technical exams or other assessment items
- Experience writing assessment items such as multiple-choice exam questions
- Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Experience in the learning industry as a trainer or courseware developer
Preferred qualifications are helpful but not required. Candidates are not expected to meet all preferred qualifications at hire.
Education and Training
- Education/Experience in the learning industry, such as Psychometrics, Instructional Design, Educational Assessment, etc. is a plus.
- Equivalent professional experience and a demonstrated ability to learn assessment and certification best practices are equally valued.

InterSystems is providing a current good faith estimate of the anticipated base salary range for this position depending on a variety of factors including experience, education, skills, and performance.
Other compensation may include a discretionary annual variable target incentive.
