Senior Accountant

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will support the continued growth of Wamesit Lanes, Escapology, Strixe, and affiliated entities. This position will serve as the technical accounting lead for the finance department and will be responsible for month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting support, payroll accounting, intercompany accounting, and process improvement.


Primary Responsibilities

Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Own the month-end and year-end close process across Wamesit Lanes, Escapology, Strixe, and affiliated entities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and recurring accounting entries.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card activity, merchant processing accounts, gift card liabilities, and POS reporting systems.
  • Process and reconcile intercompany transactions between affiliated entities.
  • Support fixed asset, depreciation, amortization, and loan schedules.
  • Assist with inventory accounting and operational audit procedures.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and operational summaries for ownership, the Finance Manager, and management teams.
  • Monitor and analyze sales, labor, payroll, inventory, and operating expenses across multiple locations.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Assist in the development of improved financial reporting tools, dashboards, and department-level reporting.
  • Support the Monday sales report and other recurring reporting as needed.

Payroll & HR-Related Accounting

  • Support payroll-related accounting entries, payroll accruals, tip reporting reconciliation, and labor reporting.
  • Work with the HR Manager and Payroll Administrator / Accounting Associate to ensure payroll activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll, employee, and financial information.

Accounts Payable, Compliance & External Support

  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable processes for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support vendor reconciliations and AP cut-off procedures.
  • Assist with annual 1099 preparation, W-9 tracking, and COI documentation as needed.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax preparers, benefit brokers, insurance representatives, and vendors as needed.
  • Assist with annual insurance audits and year-end tax support.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Systems, Controls & Process Improvement

  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of accounting systems, POS integrations, payroll systems, and reporting tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, workflows, and reporting efficiency.
  • Document key accounting processes and help build scalable finance department procedures.
  • Support cash handling controls, operational audits, and reconciliation procedures.
  • Complete tasks delegated by Owner or Finance Manager.
Qualifications

 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Strong QuickBooks experience.
  • Experience working with POS systems, payroll systems, merchant processors, and operational reporting tools preferred.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with Finance, HR, Operations, and Ownership.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to improve manual processes.
  • Hospitality, restaurant, entertainment, bowling, amusement, or multi-location experience preferred.


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and related systems. This role works closely with the Finance Manager, HR Manager, operations leadership, ownership, and external partners.


Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing and administrative work may be required. This may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend, or stand as necessary. Business casual attire is required.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. Associate degree with significant relevant experience will be considered. 5-10 years of accounting experience preferred. Multi-entity accounting experience preferred. 2-3+ years of QuickBooks experience required. Experience in hospitality, food and beverage, entertainment, restaurant, retail, or multi-unit operations preferred. Experience with payroll accounting, POS reconciliation, merchant processing, and sales reporting preferred. Must have reliable transportation. Employment is subject to successfully completing a background check and/or CORI screening.
