Job Overview

This position is responsible for advanced facilitation and coaching of multiple Agile teams and Release Trains, within multiple lines of business, based in a primary site (Burlington, MA), and providing occasional support for other sites such as Ewing, NJ, and Lisle, IL.  Responsibilities include coaching on Agile mindset, methodology and scaling practices as well as ongoing advocacy for Agile and Scaled Agile maturity and adoption. This position is part of a small team of highly-collaborative global site coaches and internal transformation consultants that collectively is responsible for understanding and helping prioritize sustainable agility practices and support across all sites. The Sr Principal Agile Coach is considered to be a thought leader who mentors others and provides Agile leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities

Enable Agility

  • Join a small team of global coaches in creating sustainable scaled agility at CA
    • Collaborate regularly with this agile team as your first team
    • Share and prioritize work based on sustaining agile needs of your primary site(s) and of the team/global needs.
    • Pair with other team members on remote work and/or work at other global sites.
  • Coach, train, and mentor Agile teams and programs:
    • Work with Scrum Masters, Release Train Engineers, teams and programs to institute the Agile framework that best fits their activities; familiarize the teams with the common elements of the chosen framework.
    • Mentor Scrum Masters and Release Train Engineers with an aim toward making Agile techniques successful, resilient, and permanent.
    • Coach, train, and mentor those outside the Agile team who support and work with the teams, such as Product Owner and Functional Manager with an eye toward supporting their respective teams while building trust.
    • Observe and support team and program level Agile activities such as Sprint/Iteration Planning, Scrum of Scrums, PI Planning, and provide constructive feedback.
    • Collaborate with Scrum Masters and Release Train Engineers to coach, train, and educate teams and programs.
    • Foster cross team, cross-train, cross-business unit, and cross-global sites communication.
  • Foster an Agile culture:
    • Create an environment of trust where it is safe to challenge, experiment and fail without fear; foster cooperation in experimentation and adopting new techniques.
    • Promote continuous improvement at the team and program level for all functions.
    • Foster continuous collaboration; continuously collaborate and communicate across all functions supporting Agile team and program execution.
    • Foster growth mindset.
  • Be an advocate in adopting Agile best practices and processes; support and contribute to sustainable Agile practices within CA.
  • Act as a key participant in establishing future Agile direction and techniques.
  • Act as a galvanizing force for sharing Agile knowledge across the organization.
  • Lead Agile education at the team and program level:
    • Provide Agile training and education across teams and programs, reinforcing practices and renewed adoption.
    • Deliver Agile workshops.
    • Conduct ad-hoc Agile training with anyone as critical needs arise
    • Ensure and develop solid educational content for a sustainable Agile institution at CA.
    • Collaborate with Education to design and execute training classes to ensure currency of Agile training.
  • Constantly refine and stay current with emerging themes in the larger Agile community:
    • Support the incorporation of emerging and new Agile practices and approaches across CA.
    • Contribute to newsletters, blogs, and internal and external gatherings as they relate to Agile practices at CA.
    • Establish and maintain a visible posture within the Agile community through submission of articles, conference participation and engaging Agile leaders throughout the industry.
  • Be a change agent:
    • Participate in Agile transformation at the region/program level; may help lead an Agile transformation at region/program level.
    • Advance the adoption of Agile across the organization and be a recognized resource in Agile competencies.
  • Model continuous learning.
  • Participate in Agile Coaching communities of practice and excellence within CA; assist, coach, and mentor other Agile Coaches.
  • Support and develop all Agile coaching activities across CA.
  • Participate in regional and national Agile groups.
  • Professionally coach:
    • Help individuals and teams reach their goals using techniques of professional coaching.
    • Assist in the career development of people in Agile roles.

Facilitation

  • Provide facilitation expertise for large events as needed (such as PI planning)
  • Maintain a healthy interaction between individual team members and teams.
  • Facilitate cross-team collaboration in Agile improvement activities.
  • Proactively recognize conflict; facilitate conflict resolution through collaboration and consensus.

Enable Scaled Agility

  • May fulfill all the responsibilities of a Scaled Agile Framework Release Train Engineer (SAFe RTE) for a medium to large Release Train or value stream.

 

 

Business Travel and Physical Demands

Business travel of approximately 25 percent yearly is expected for this position.

Physical demands:

  • Office environment. No special physical demands required.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree or global equivalent in a related field.

Work Experience

Typically 10 or more years in an industry related role.

Experience in Agile coaching/consulting.

Certifications

·  SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) is required.

·  ICAgile Professional Certification in Agile Team Facilitation (ICP-ATF) is a plus.
