Job Summary

Position summary:

 

This is a non-attorney privacy compliance specialist based in Burlington that will be responsible for overseeing the implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s HIPAA policies and procedures covering the access, use and handling of patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

 

• Performs HIPAA operational audits to investigate and monitor compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and HIPAA policies. 
• Works closely with leadership in all areas to assure that corrective actions and changes are implemented, with the goal of continuous improvement.
• Prepares reports, related analyses, and makes recommendations to assist management in ensuring compliance and improving internal controls.
• Participates in the development of the HIPAA annual work plan by completing assigned work and work plan items and conducting at least one quarterly audit related to compliance and/or privacy.
• Performs HIPAA risk management activities – such as developing auditing, monitoring, and oversight processes related to identified risks. Prepares for and perform reviews assessing compliance with program related regulations.
• Translates NIST requirements to the business as it relates to HIPAA Compliance
• Catalogues and manages privacy and security-related policies

• Perform tasks related to securing and keeping the products, tools, and processes that you are responsible for securing

 

Knowledge, skills and qualifications – 

 

Education: BA in business, healthcare, or related field. 

 

Minimum years of work experience: 5 years

 

Required skills:

 

This position requires strong knowledge of HIPAA and responsibilities of a Healthcare Organization related to Privacy.  Responsibilities encompass efficiently tracking and investigating HIPAA related privacy matters.  This individual needs to have exceptional time management skills and will work collaborative with cross-functional teams.  The individual should feel comfortable leading meetings and providing internal privacy training.  The individual should have a good understanding of NIST requirements as applied to HIPAA Risk Assessments and Compliance initiatives.
 

Preferred skills: General knowledge of Healthcare Compliance issues, and government regulations.  Project Management skills, attention to detail, team player, self-starter, aptitude for an interest in learning different products.
