Job Summary & Responsibilities

Position Description

Are you a Product Owner who is ready for the next step: hungry to learn, eager to own real outcomes, and excited to grow with a team that will invest in you? As a Product Owner at Carestream Dental, you will own features and product areas across both our cloud-based SaaS platform, Sensei Cloud, and our on-premises practice management software, including SoftDent. You will work side by side with dental practices, engineering teams, and experienced product leaders.

You will set priorities for your scrum team, define and accept the work it delivers, and make sure every release adds real value for the dental offices that rely on our software to run their day. You will gather feedback and requirements from current and future customers, turn them into clear, outcome-focused backlog items, and partner with Engineering, QA, UX, Service, Sales, and Strategic Partnerships to bring them to life.

This role is built for growth. You will work independently on day-to-day backlog management and delivery, while receiving regular, hands-on coaching in roadmap strategy, product discovery, and business-case development from Senior Director of Strategy and product leadership. Our Product Owner competency framework shows exactly what the next level looks like, with a clear path toward Senior Product Owner.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Real ownership, early. You will own features and a product area, not just a list of tickets, and see your decisions reach customers.
  • Breadth few roles offer. You will build experience across modern SaaS and established on-premises software, including upgrades, deployment, and a mixed customer base.
  • Coaching you can count on. You will get regular feedback and coaching against a defined competency framework, so your growth is visible and intentional.
  • Direct customer impact. You will spend time with dental practices every week through calls, site visits, and user sessions.
  • Modern ways of working. We use AI tools to speed up research, analysis, and requirements, and we will help you get great at it.

You'll Thrive Here If You…

  • Are hungry to learn, ask for feedback, and act on it
  • Take ownership and follow through, even when the path is not fully defined
  • Are curious about customers and how they actually work
  • Enjoy bringing people together to solve problems
  • Want to build a long-term career in product

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the voice of the customer. Engage with dental practices and end users weekly and turn what you learn into product decisions.
  • Own and prioritize your scrum team's backlog (epics, features, and user stories), using data-driven approaches to focus on the highest-value work.
  • Lead sprint and iteration planning: clearly explain the what and the why, and plan for cross-team dependencies.
  • Write clear user stories with acceptance criteria and a definition of done; validate and accept completed work and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) with stakeholders.
  • Build subject-matter expertise in your assigned product area (SaaS, on-premises, or both) and become the go-to resource for questions about it.
  • Support the distinct needs of on-premises customers, including upgrades, deployment, and compatibility, alongside the faster release cadence of SaaS.
  • Monitor product health by tracking defect trends, usage data, and key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive timely resolution with cross-functional partners.
  • With coaching, contribute to the product roadmap and quarterly objectives and key results (OKRs), explaining the trade-offs and return on investment (ROI) of your features.
  • With coaching, help lead product discovery: form hypotheses, test ideas with customers (including AI-assisted prototyping), and bring what you learn into the backlog.
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, Service, and Customer Success on release readiness, product documentation, and launch communications.
  • Spot delivery risks early and escalate them with proposed solutions.
  • Use AI tools to speed up research, requirements drafting, and analysis, and check their output for accuracy.
  • Research and analyze the market, users, and competitors in the dental industry.

Experience

  • 3–5+ years of experience in software product ownership, product management
  • Hands-on experience working with Agile/Scrum teams, including writing user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Experience with SaaS and/or on-premises (installed) software, and a willingness to work across both
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; comfortable using data to make decisions
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience in customer-facing roles is an advantage
  • Experience in the dental or healthcare software industry is an advantage
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar backlog tools, and with AI assistants, is a plus

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
