A Little About Us
Yahoo is a global media and tech company that connects people to their passions. We reach nearly 900 million people around the world, bringing them closer to what they love—from finance and sports, to shopping, gaming, and news—through trusted products, content, and technology that fuel their day. For partners, we provide a full-stack platform that helps businesses amplify growth and build meaningful connections across advertising, search, and media.
Yahoo Everywhere takes Yahoo products onto surfaces we do not own. We work with partners across OEMs, apps, connected TV, automotive, and ambient digital surfaces. Yahoo Weather, News, Sports, Finance, and Games land on the devices people buy, inside browsers, and on screens sitting in cars or on wrists. Every deal is a design problem: how Yahoo shows up inside someone else’s product, how our brand stays present, and how we add value while retaining a direct line to the user.
About The Role:
We are seeking a Principal Product Designer (IC6) to lead design strategy and experience architecture for Yahoo Everywhere. Operating alongside Business Development leadership, you will serve as the final design decision-maker for everything put in front of external partners. This role combines vision and strategic judgment. You will lead speculative concepting—visualizing how Yahoo experiences materialize on ambient screens, automotive displays, and white-label hardware before business cases are fully formed. You will also represent Design in partner negotiations, holding the line on brand prominence and user attribution. You will guide production designers across active implementations, setting calibration standards, shaping partner playbooks, and building scalable design systems that make every integration faster and more impactful.
What You'll Do:
Strategic Concept & Pitch Leadership: Lead blue-sky concept development for unannounced surfaces (ambient displays, automotive, wearables, hardware), creating concrete visual directions that inspire prospective partners and align executive stakeholders.
Design Decision Authority & Identity Governance: Serve as the final sign-off authority for Yahoo's visual identity across partner surfaces, ensuring brand presence and direct user engagement models survive complex commercial negotiations.
Commercial Deal Shaping: Represent Design in partner deal rooms alongside Business Development and Product Management, influencing contract terms, surface allocation, and integration scope while deals are being drafted.
AI-Augmented Prototyping & Velocity: Integrate AI-driven workflow engines and code-generation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) alongside Figma to rapidly construct high-fidelity interactive prototypes, accelerating concept iteration cycles during live partner discussions.
Systemic Playbook & Framework Architecture: Architect and scale integration playbooks for OEM, carrier, and digital platform deals, defining flexible design rules that allow brand assets to adapt seamlessly to third-party design languages.
Design System Scaling & Automation: Evolve the Yahoo Everywhere design framework, leveraging AI-assisted component generation to automate routine white-label adaptations and streamline handoffs to execution designers.
Cross-Functional Design Calibration: Partner with dedicated Design Leads across Yahoo Finance, Sports, News, Weather, and Games to ensure off-platform experiences remain true to core product architecture and data integrity.
Design Org Leadership: Set standards for design craft and prototyping across the team, providing guidance and critique to execution designers without direct line-management overhead.
Basic Qualifications:
10+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products, with a documented track record of shaping product strategy and shipping complex digital experiences across web, mobile, and emerging devices.
Proven experience serving as the final design decision-maker for a product area, with a portfolio showcasing strategic concept vision, systems design leadership, and shipped products.
Demonstrated experience designing for third-party or restricted surfaces, such as partner integrations, embedded systems, white-label products, OEM placements, or platform distribution.
Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted design or code-generation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Figma AI) within professional workflows to accelerate prototyping, ideation, or system scaling.
Proven experience presenting to external executives, participating in commercial deal discussions, and negotiating brand positioning against business constraints.
Expert command of design fundamentals, brand systems, interaction design, information architecture, and responsive UX layouts across varied form factors.
Experience defining, scaling, and maintaining enterprise design systems or platform distribution frameworks.
Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience verified through a history of industry leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing for next-generation consumer surfaces, including connected TV, automotive infotainment systems, wearables, or ambient AI interfaces.
Experience working directly with Business Development, Corporate Strategy, or Partnership teams on OEM, carrier, or browser distribution deals.
Prior background spanning both product design and creative/brand direction.
Active involvement in exploring emerging generative AI tools, prompt engineering for UI generation, and spatial or ambient design paradigms.
The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
