The Principal Applications Developer is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, delivery, and evolution of subsystems, capabilities, or cross-team initiatives. Principals are expected to make technical decisions that account for multiple perspectives and to actively guide teams toward sound, standard-aligned solutions, seeking broader agreement with development teams or management where appropriate. The role focuses on architectural integrity, technical strategy, and risk management across multiple teams or functional areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of complex subsystems or solution capabilities end to end.
- Translate high-level goals into coherent technical strategies aligned with solution direction and business objectives.
- Select, evaluate, and recommend technologies, tools, and frameworks, guiding their adoption.
- Evaluate solution approaches considering effort, risk, quality, operability, and long-term sustainability.
- Deliver software initiatives of significant scope and complexity independently or with diverse teams.
- Proactively identify, manage, and resolve cross-system dependencies and architectural risks.
- Provide technical leadership during planning, execution, and critical problem resolution.
- Mentor developers across the software delivery lifecycle and guide technical decision-making.
- Represent technical viewpoints in reviews involving senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute independently to customer-facing and industry-related activities.
Skills and Experience
- Expert-level knowledge of relevant technologies, platforms, and architectural patterns.
- Deep understanding of selected system domains with broad awareness of the wider solution landscape.
- Proven ability to influence technical direction across teams.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making capabilities.
- Recognised expertise beyond immediate team or function.

Other compensation may include a discretionary annual variable target incentive.
