Who you are

You are someone who builds effective networks, both inside and outside your organization, to advance your industry knowledge and influence, as well as to advance business goals. You are an expert negotiator and highly persuasive, using a tailored approach to deliver compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others.

In an ambiguous and ever-changing industry like cannabis, you effectively plan and prioritize initiatives, aligning key stakeholders to meet organizational goals. You’re biased toward action, taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm. And you do it all with strong financial acumen and business insights that drive your contribution to the overall success of the business.

What the role is

In this role, you’ll be responsible for two of the most critical factors to Lantern’s growth: building the strategic roadmap for market expansion across the US, and building the operator network of retail dispensaries as well as strategic partnerships with cannabis brands and service providers.

In this highly regulated and quickly changing industry, your deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, as well as business development opportunities, will yield productive and profitable partnerships for Lantern. There is no playbook yet; you’ll be the one to create it. You’ll have your finger on the pulse of market opportunities nationwide, and you’ll determine the plans for entry into these markets.

Please note: this role can be performed remotely anywhere in the United States with the exception of Colorado.

In this role you will:

  • Maximize market share and accelerate growth by creating and owning the strategic roadmap for market entry, and expansion
  • Assess, strategize and create plans by market based on opportunity size, ease of entry, competitive landscape, cost to launch, compliance requirements
  • Source, onboard, optimize, and grow relationships with dispensaries (multi-state operators, small scale and single owner dispensaries, etc), cannabis brands, and additional strategic partnerships that drive growth
  • Actively participate in leading regulatory initiatives, responding to the state-by-state regulatory landscape, contributing to Lantern’s point of view and influence on local regulations, and tailoring the state-by-state approach in kind
  • With cross-functional partners, execute new market launch plans, with an eye toward operations, marketing, compliance, and technology
  • Influence the product roadmap to ensure that Lantern leads innovation in both retailer and customer experience
  • Engage with and contribute to social equity initiatives, creating programming and strategic partnerships to support social equity work

Must-have skills:

  • Executive level business development experience, including complex, lengthy relationship building
  • Expert negotiating skills that take a customized approach to different audiences
  • Ability to create strategic and operational plans to onboard the right partners, big and small, take them through on-boarding
  • Experience in opportunity sizing, evaluating opportunities, and prioritizing timing
  • Creativity in problem solving
  • Financial acumen
  • Willingness to deep dive on operations to make partnerships work after contract is signed
  • Understanding of how tech/product innovation is critical to partner success
  • Willing to travel (when it becomes safe again)
  • Scrappiness, ability to get things done with few resources, figure things out, enthusiasm to work on granular tasks when necessary
  • Analytical chops - can hang with really smart people, can work with B/I, can model out scenarios, understands how to think about maximizing ROI on time, tech resources
  • Consumer experience (vs. solely b2b)
  • Management experience
  • Cannabis experience is a plus, but not required. Curiosity about cannabis is a must - you need to believe in the industry and want to expand it to as many consumers as possible)
  • Regulatory experience a plus

You do you.
