Job Summary
24 hr Rotating, every weekendAs the OR Nurse Flow Manager, you will play an essential role in ensuring safe, efficient, and seamless patient flow throughout the perioperative experience. You will use your clinical expertise, leadership skills, and operational judgment to keep cases moving, support our teams, and optimize OR performance.
In this role, you will:
Lead perioperative patient flow by coordinating the movement of patients from Pre-Op, the ED, or inpatient units to the Operating Room and then to PACU or the appropriate inpatient unit.
Drive efficient OR operations by partnering closely with nursing leadership, anesthesia, surgeons, clinical support teams, and hospital administration to ensure effective use of OR resources.
Keep the OR schedule moving by anticipating challenges, identifying potential delays, and taking proactive steps to minimize disruptions, overtime, and unnecessary staffing expenses.
Optimize staffing and skill mix by aligning nursing resources with surgical volume and case needs, with particular attention to key staffing transition times throughout the day and evening.
Use clinical expertise and sound judgment to balance patient needs, staffing, surgical priorities, and operational demands in a fast-paced environment.
Build strong partnerships across the organization by collaborating with Pre-Op, PACU, ICU, and other ancillary departments to create a seamless perioperative experience.
Monitor and communicate OR performance by tracking actual and potential delays, identifying trends, and sharing insights that support operational and institutional goals.
Support technology and scheduling accuracy by monitoring the Epic scheduling system and partnering with Information Systems to maintain accurate and reliable OR scheduling.
Plan proactively for staffing needs and secure appropriate resources while remaining mindful of budget and operational impact.
Promote a positive team environment that supports staff engagement, professional growth, job satisfaction, and high performance.
Champion organizational standards by implementing departmental policies, supporting compliance, and following established escalation pathways when additional resources or leadership support are needed.
Contribute to the success of the department by taking on additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree required
• Previous Operating Room Charge Nurse experience required
• Master’s Degree in related healthcare, Operations, engineering Preferred
• Knowledge of patient care and operational flow activities, as described.
- Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and organizational abilities.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced OR environment.
