Role Description

Form's Advanced Product Development team is responsible for architecting and designing the next generation of our iron-air battery system — the cell, module, pack, and the support systems that keep them running reliably for decades in the field. We work ahead of our production programs, translating breakthrough electrochemistry and system requirements into mechanical designs that can scale to high-volume manufacturing.

We're hiring a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, build and test hardware for our next generation of iron-air batteries. As part of our Advanced Product Development team, you will have a hands-on role in designing next-generation system-level designs. You will also have the opportunity to design parts for volume manufacturing. Your work will rely on a broad range of engineering disciplines, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics. You will integrate tightly with a team of experienced engineers to write and execute verification test plans and iterate on designs with data-driven analysis. You’ll be a part of a large cross-functional team bringing Energy Storage Systems from concept to release to mass manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver our sustainable multi-day energy storage solution to the grid!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Lead hands-on prototyping and verification testing of subsystem designs.

  • Drive instrumentation, data collection and data analysis for system-level validation builds.

  • Own design of components and assemblies for volume manufacturing.

  • Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction.

  • Execute ambitious product development processes on tight timelines.

What you'll bring:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 1+ years experience in mechanical design, or Master's with research or professional engineering experience.

  • Experienced using CAD to design parts and assemblies.

  • Exposure to writing, executing and analyzing test plans to make data-driven decisions.

  • Experience with prototyping techniques and working in a lab environment.

  • Strong heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics fundamentals.
