Title: Learning and Development Specialist

Location: Somerville/DC - hybrid

VIA is making an impact, and so can you.

At VIA, our mission is to make communities cleaner, safer, and more equitable. We believe that by working across organizational boundaries, we can achieve greater collective good than we can individually. VIA overcomes digital barriers to collective action by providing the world’s most secure and simple data and identity protection solutions.

VIA is trusted by the U.S. Department of Defense and Fortune 100 companies around the globe to solve their toughest data and identity protection challenges. Using our Web3, quantum-resistant, passwordless technologies (19 issued patents), VIA protects data against theft, manipulation, and misuse.

Our mission is fueled by our people.

We believe that to protect the world’s most sensitive data, we must first invest in the brilliant minds behind the technology. As a highly motivated Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist, you will work closely with VIA’s L&D Director and People and Operations (POps) team as an architect of growth at VIA. You will bridge the gap between complex technical innovation and human potential, building critical components of VIA’s L&D landscape.

Individuals who excel in this role are motivated by empowering others to reach their full potential. If you are a lifelong learner who loves building structure out of big ideas, are you ready to join us?

In this role, you will:

  • Content design & creation: Own the end-to-end creation of VIA YOU (Your Opportunities University) programs. You will design the programmatic flow, developing engaging curriculum materials (slide decks, facilitator guides, and resources), and building reinforcing mechanisms that ensure lasting change for both tech and non-tech VIAneers.
  • Onboarding Integration: Build the essential learning components that integrate new VIAneers into our ecosystem. You will focus on the content and resources needed for people to upskill quickly. Your work ensures new hires have immediate access to the knowledge they need for success.
  • Continuous improvement: Gather feedback and measure training effectiveness to adjust programs and improve future learning opportunities. We ask that you stay abreast on the latest developments in learning trends and technologies.
  • Execute the L&D roadmap: Act as a key driver in strengthening VIA’s L&D landscape by executing specific tasks and activities delegated from the L&D Roadmap, ensuring our top-priority learning initiatives move from plan to reality.
  • Support L&D operations: Supports general L&D operations, such as assisting with tracking L&D requests, promoting learning accelerators – like Lunch & Learns and Tutorials, and knowledge management of L&D materials.
  • Leverage technology: Stay in touch with emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI) to advance and optimize learning at VIA.

What you will bring to this role:

  • Instructional design flair: Experience creating engaging training materials and roadmaps for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technical translation & aptitude: The ability to partner closely with technical leads to translate complex processes (like DevSecOps, AI, or Software Development) into clear, digestible learning content that is easily understood and practically applied by both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Continuous improvement partner: A proactive approach to evaluating the L&D landscape at VIA (including onboarding), identifying gaps, and making strategic recommendations to streamline processes or refresh materials to ensure they remain high-impact.
  • Program & project management: Own end-to-end execution of learning initiatives from needs assessment and design through delivery and evaluation.

What does it take to be a successful VIAneer? Let’s break it down, our VIAneers are:

  • Self-motivated and passionate about leaving everything they touch better than how they found it.

  • People who lead discussions with curiosity and value diverse perspectives
  • Eager to explore new ideas, understand the power of feedback, and constantly seek opportunities to grow and develop their skills

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
