Evolv’s Research & Development group is seeking a visionary and hands-on IoT / Wi-Fi Systems Engineer to join the Systems Engineering team.
In this role you will:
- Monitor and support IoT cloud connectivity of Evolv products.
- Design and build secure remote access mechanisms.
- Define firewall/routing management for access points within Evolv products.
- Interact with IoT telecommunication service providers and hardware vendors when needed for design or troubleshooting.
- Detect and help mitigate data overages.
- Develop solutions to improve performance in locations that may be subject to poor LTE signal coverage or Wi-Fi network congestion.
- Recommend and qualify software/firmware/configuration updates for routers handling IoT and Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Develop optimized configuration and firewall settings.
- Coordinate with other Evolv teams to develop rollout plans.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day IoT connectivity problems to root cause in LTE, portal, AWS, device hardware, software, or some combination thereof.
- Collaborate with Customers and Evolv teams on solutions for locations or applications that may have unique network challenges.
- Identify performance trends to provide continuous improvement for the Evolv fleet of products and growing customer base.
In the first 30 days, you will:
- Become an integral team member and get up to speed on who's who in Engineering, Tech Support, and Field Service
- Learn how Evolv Express and eXpedite products work with a focus on cloud and tablet connectivity.
- Learn MyEvolv Portal tools for Field Service support.
- Attend weekly Engineering/Service Activity Review meetings.
- Learn to remotely connect to router devices through manufacturer management portals.
- Learn to connect to IoT telecommunication service provider’s management portals.
Within 3 months, you will:
- Review and document the current configuration states across multiple products.
- Address intermediate connectivity issues for at least one existing customer.
- Begin identifying risks and opportunities for improvement in current systems and expanding geographical and vertical markets.
- Document and prototype secure remote connectivity using Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE)/Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) tunnels.
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align goals and priorities.
By the end of the first year, you will:
- Establish a well-defined process for qualifying changes to be implemented in the field and/or manufacturing.
- Lead cross-functional technical initiatives to improve performance, cost, and customer experience.
- Serve as the technical authority for IoT and Wi-Fi related decisions, balancing innovation with maintainability, cost, and performance.
- Deliver measurable improvements in system scalability, reliability, and modularity.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement across the engineering and support organizations.
- Define or create tools to facilitate monitoring key IoT and Wi-Fi performance metrics.
- Understand communication processes between Evolv products and the cloud to improve robustness.
- Strengthen the connectivity between Evolv systems and peripheral tablet devices while simplifying from a user perspective.
- Develop problem solving acumen by using critical thinking, log parsing, logical reasoning, problem solving, curiosity, and diagnostics tools to unravel technical field issues.
- Communicate effectively with Technical Support, Field Service, Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers, as well as customers.
- Recognize and exploit opportunities to make the field service issue resolution workflow more efficient and effective by placing tools, automation and process where needed.
You will be joining the Systems Engineering Team, reporting to a Senior Software Systems Engineer, within Evolv’s larger R&D team of 70. You will work directly with software and electrical engineers, the Product team, and interface very closely with the Support and Field Service organization.
Where is the role located?
This is an onsite role based at Evolv Headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. As a member of the Engineering team, we expect you to come into the office daily, but we understand that things come up; you can work remotely from time to time. Travel – up to 30% to customer sites.
What is the salary range?The base salary range for this full-time position is $119,000- $191,000. In addition to base salary, this role offers a competitive target bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. This range reflects our commitment to pay transparency and equity, in alignment with applicable state laws. Our compensation ranges are determined based on factors such as role, level, location, market benchmarks, and internal equity. The posted range represents the good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role across U.S. locations. Actual compensation within the range will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and geographic location.
