As an HR Generalist, Field Support at Sur La Table, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our retail teams across the country. You’ll be the go-to partner for district managers, store managers, and HR leadership helping them navigate employee relations, compliance, and operational processes with confidence.
This role is about fostering positive employee experience, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies, and providing solutions that keep our teams engaged and our operations compliant. You’ll combine your HR expertise with strong communication and organizational skills to deliver exceptional support where it’s needed most.
You will report directly to the HR Manager, Operations, and work closely with a passionate, collaborative HR team committed to delivering excellence to our retail organization.
This role is challenging – above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have a big role within a fast-paced team.

- Employee Relations & Compliance
- Address employee concerns and policy violations promptly and professionally.
- Support investigations into complaints, misconduct, and workplace conflict.
- Conduct exit interviews with employees, analyze feedback trends, and provide recommendations to leadership for retention and engagement improvements.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies across all retail locations.
- Identify trends in employee relations and recommend proactive solutions.
- Partner with Legal, HR Leadership, and Field Leadership to ensure fair, consistent outcomes.
- Process onboarding paperwork and ensure timely, accurate HRIS setup for new hires.
- Manage the HR mailbox, responding promptly to store leadership inquiries.
- Monitor compliance with HR initiatives, audits, and required trainings; escalate when needed.
- Coordinate with third-party administrators on workers’ compensation claims.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees’ questions and concerns.
- Track and maintain claims data in HRIS; identify trends and recommend safety improvements.
- Partner with third-party administrators to manage employee leave requests (FMLA, personal, and statutory leaves).
- Follow up on outstanding documentation and return-to-work clearances.
- Guide managers and employees through return-to-work and accommodation processes.
- Maintain accurate leave documentation and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
- Fully remote position requiring reliable internet access and a distraction-free workspace.
- Extended periods of computer-based work in a home office setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and digital platforms.
- Frequent written communication through email and other online tools.
- Willingness to support retail locations during non-typical business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Psychology, or related field.
- 3-5 years of HR experience, with a strong focus on supporting retail.
- Strong sense of ownership and a growth mindset are essential.
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms (e.g., Paylocity or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience creating and maintaining HR SOPs and documentation.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Demonstrated use of HR data and analytics to inform decisions and drive improvement.
