OVERVIEW

Partsbase, Inc. the world’s largest B2B online parts locator service for the aviation, aerospace, and defense industries with more than 6,500 corporate customers across 132 countries, is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to scope, build, and certify AI-driven integrations for our corporate customers, and to strengthen our own platform between engagements. This is a senior, client-facing role for an engineer who runs an engagement independently, from discovery through sign-off, with Claude Code as their primary instrument.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Run technical discovery with customers and turn what you find into a technical scope, a risk assessment, and an estimate that covers both build effort and what the solution costs to run at their volume.

· Partner with Sales on scoping, and own the solution design.

· Build integrations end to end with Claude Code: agents and MCP servers, ERP and third-party connectors, file and batch ingestion, webhooks, and data mapping.

· Certify your own work, with parity against the customer’s source of truth, automated regression, and evidence the customer can sign off on.

· Build reusable verification tooling: parity harnesses, reconciliation, agent-driven test generation, and reporting a customer will accept.

· Define how we test agentic components, including prompt injection paths, tool and MCP permission scoping, and what an agent can do without a human in the loop.

· Design guardrails for agentic components in customer environments: scoped credentials, approval gates, output validation, audit logging, and rollback.

· Act as the primary technical interface for the engagement, and get through customer security review and change control without working around it.

· Hand off cleanly with documentation, runbooks, and monitoring.

· Convert what recurs across engagements into product: API capability, reference implementations, connectors, and an official Partsbase MCP server.

· Own developer experience for the integration surface, including documentation written for agents as well as humans, worked examples, and a self-service path.

· Between engagements, contribute across the full stack to the core platform.

· Build and maintain internal agentic tooling, including CLAUDE.md, subagents, skills, hooks, MCP servers, and n8n automations.

REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

· 10+ years building and shipping production software across backend, frontend, and integration work.

· At least 5 of those years operating systems you built yourself, on call for them, living with design decisions you made years earlier.

· Direct experience in a billable consulting, professional services, or solutions engineering capacity: scoping, estimating build effort and running cost, and owning a customer relationship.

· This role builds and certifies. A candidate strong in only one of the two is not a fit.

· Demonstrated production use of Claude Code, including CLAUDE.md, subagents, skills, hooks, MCP servers, and the Claude API. We ask for evidence, not years.

· Command of context engineering, tool use, model selection, and the failure modes of non-deterministic systems.

· Proven ability to catch AI output that is confidently wrong, and the automated checks you built so it does not reach a customer.

· Deep experience verifying data integrations: reconciliation strategy, parity at scale, sampling versus full comparison, and records that legitimately differ.

· Agent-driven testing and evaluation of non-deterministic behavior, including designing verification with Claude rather than hand-writing every case, eval design and scoring, and regression detection across prompt and model changes.

· Test automation at scale (Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent; API and contract testing), including flake elimination.

· A defect that escaped to a customer on your watch, that you owned, and that led you to change something systemic rather than add a test case.

· Instinct for when to stop solving a problem one customer at a time and productize it, and for when a pattern is not yet real enough to generalize.

· Experience evolving a partner-facing API, including the versioning and deprecation consequences of getting it wrong.

· C# and .NET including .NET Framework 4.6-era code, plus Python, TypeScript, and React with Next.js or React Native.

· AWS: deploying, operating, and debugging production workloads.

· REST integration at scale, and data integration across the maturity spectrum, from spreadsheet and flat file to batch, webhook, event-driven, and direct API.

· SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Elasticsearch.

· CI/CD with test automation in the pipeline, production observability (New Relic or equivalent), and automation platforms such as n8n.

· Credible in front of a customer: able to run a discovery session and leave them more confident than when you arrived, including when their entire process turns out to be a spreadsheet.

· Experience being overruled, or talking an organization out of something it wanted, and handling the aftermath professionally.

· Fluent in English language.

· Nice to have: aviation, aerospace, or defense exposure including ITAR/EAR awareness, and ERP integration (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or aerospace-specific systems).

· Nice to have: security testing practice, including OWASP Top 10 and the OWASP Top 10 for LLMs.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
