Target Start Date: June 7, 2026 - August 20, 2026 (11-week program)
Team Summary: The Business Automation and Optimization team partners across Staples Finance to drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights, analytics, and automation. We support functions such as Corporate Accounting, Supply Chain FP&A, Order to Cash, Collections, Accounts Payable, and Vendor Relations. Our team is cross-trained to promote collaboration, flexibility, and skill development.
Position Overview: The Financial Analytics Intern will support the team by assisting in data analysis, reporting, and process improvement initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience with the financial data, tools, and technologies that drive business decisions and operational efficiency. The intern will work closely with analysts and business partners to learn how data is transformed into actionable insights.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Impact on Business
- Assist in gathering and preparing data for reporting and analysis.
- Help build basic dashboards and visualizations using tools like Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Support documentation of financial processes and automation efforts.
- Participate in identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
- Contribute to internal presentations and reporting packages.
Innovation & Change
- Learn and apply data transformation techniques using tools such as Alteryx or Python (as applicable).
- Stay curious and explore new ways to streamline manual tasks.
- Participate in team discussions around automation and analytics strategy.
Decision-Making & Judgment
- Apply critical thinking to identify patterns and trends in data.
- Ask questions and seek guidance on complex issues.
- Take initiative on assigned tasks while escalating challenges appropriately.
Communication & Collaboration
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners.

- Support team coverage and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
What's Needed - Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field
- Must be a student graduating in May 2028
- Coursework or project experience in data analysis or financial modeling preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Excel; exposure to Tableau, Power BI, or SQL is a plus
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Attention to detail and eagerness to learn
- Interest in automation, data visualization, and financial systems
