SUMMARY
The Director of Finance for Academic Affairs is responsible for maintaining operating budgets for Academic Affairs to ensure complete and accurate financial data is readily available. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining compliance with internal and external policies and procedures; developing revenue budgets in close collaboration with Admissions Offices, Deans, and Program Directors; monitoring the financial results and maintaining effective internal controls and policies related to our OPM; preparing, evaluating, and performing ongoing program assessments in a timely and accurate manner; and making recommendations to leadership to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Report directly to the Provost; responsible for working with Deans, the Associate Provost and all other Academic unit leaders to provide budget development, preparation, analysis and management for an Academic Affairs division operating budget of approximately $41M.
- Responsible for responding to and preparing ad hoc financial analysis necessary to respond to internal and external financial information requests, including program assessments as deemed appropriate by Provost.
- Work and interact closely with the Provost, Deans, Associate Provost, Assistant Provost, all Academic division administrators, the Business Office, Human Resources, Vice Presidents and all personnel deemed appropriate for monitoring budgets and operational needs, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Responsible for Graduate revenue budget development; facilitate Graduate budget workshop sessions, monitoring enrollment numbers and revenue forecasting by working directly the leadership in Enrollment Management, MarCom, Deans, and Program Directors.
- Work closely with Deans and Program Directors on the development of any new undergraduate or graduate programs to ensure margin optimization. Monitor the financial status of all academic programs and provide Provost with recommendations on continuance of and/or investment in academic programs.
- Monitor and analyze all budgets to ensure replacement, new or incremental hires are within the budgetary constraints of the School and the Academic Affairs division. This requires intricate understanding of the full budget and how to reallocate resources from within to best optimize efficiencies.
- Prepare necessary budget transfers and journal entries to record transactional data in the general ledger. Analyze results monthly, quarterly, and at year end during close process. Ensure accurate and timely reporting and respond to inquiries within and outside the organization in an effective manner.
- Analyze budget vs. actual expenditure and generate reports and statistical data, including detailed analysis and modeling to facilitate university results based on resources.
- Continue to evaluate current fiscal processes and procedures while making recommendations to improve, implement and test as deemed necessary.
- Responsible for review and approval of internal and external financial reporting documents for Academic Affairs division; maintain complete, accurate, and organized records and support for all transactions.
- Monitor financial results related to the OPM, Boundless Learning. Ensure all pertinent personnel have a full understanding of the key financial data necessary to maintain positive results; ensure timely follow-up and assist outreach to any personnel, internal and external, to ensure compliance with the contract.
- Responsible for all Academic Affairs new or replacement staff requisition approvals while ensuring hiring is within budgetary constraints.
- Evaluate and implement internal controls on a regular basis and work with all units to ensure collaborative efforts.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA or related credentials with experience in progressively responsible positions;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills;
- Advanced working knowledge in Excel; knowledge of accounting software programming desired;
- Able to work effectively with all constituents and levels of management;
- Strong sense of teamwork with an ability to learn new responsibilities and work independently and as a team leader.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
- Regularly uses computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
COMPENSATION: $102,000 - $112,000 annually.
