Job DescriptionWe are seeking a talented Component Engineer to join the Core Electrical Engineering team within Consumer Electronics Division with a background in the application of a variety of types of electronic and electro-mechanical components and reliability engineering disciplines towards robust product design. You will be working with a cross-functional team to ensure the EE architecture, design implementation and validation, balance schedule, BOM structure, cost, and performance while following the Bose development process. You’ll join a passionate team with a history of creating innovative consumer electronics products.
Key Responsibilities
Provide component engineering technical expertise to the development teams, working with select Bose approved outsourced development suppliers, Contract Manufacturers; ensure that all key electronic components are selected from qualified suppliers and meet the Bose standards for quality and reliability in their intended application.
Perform component and subsystem level evaluations, analysis and testing as needed to validate the quality of the design, with enough margin, and to discover and mitigate any component risks during product development. Make recommendations for alternative components and suppliers as needed.
Recommend enhancements to component selection, design methodologies, and manufacturing practices to improve reliability of current and future products.
Review and assess all component level procurement documentation to make sure all specifications are complete and consistent.
Review PCNs for approval/disapproval.
Evaluate component suppliers’ qualification processes and analyze qualification data against Bose specifications.
Assess component performance over environmental conditions to derating requirements, to ensure their suitability for Bose’s product application. Drive component or application changes as required.
Working with the design teams, perform technical supplier evaluations and on-site reviews as needed to enhance the supplier selection process for electronic components and subsystems. Participate in technical audits during supplier evaluation trips as necessary.
Support development, manufacturing, and field failure investigations of components and recommend any product improvements for reliability. Assist in developing effective containment measures (e.g. screening or burn-in) to reduce early life failures and other component failures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and optimize the BOM structure for cost efficiency, quality, and availability. This includes scoring BOMs based on components’ availability, end-of-life status, and impact on product cost and performance.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Education: Bs in Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or related discipline (Masters preferred)
Experience: 5 years minimum in Component Engineering
Familiarity with lifecycle management tools, component databases, and PLM systems such as Windchill, SAP, and SiliconExpert.
Strong understanding of electronic components, including passive and active devices.
Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers is preferred.
Other desirable knowledge & experience: basic understanding of the manufacturing processes for various electronic components (e.g. general knowledge of how MLCCs are made ); basic knowledge and understanding of environmental standards such as RoHS and REACH; knowledge of the manufacturing processes for board assembly (e.g. reflow soldering versus wave soldering; double-sided reflow; pin in paste)
Proficient user of Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Professional
