About the Role

The Property Strategist, Sports Group is a pivotal role within the Yahoo Ads division, created to define, implement, and bring to market a holistic strategy across our core Sports verticals. This role blends art and science—balancing creative storytelling, data-driven insights, and deep sports platform expertise to drive ideation and innovation for our brand partners.

Supported by cross-functional partners across Ad Product, Sales, Editorial, Fantasy/Product, and Data Insights, the Property Strategist will build market-ready solutions that help our sports audiences, editorial teams, and blue-chip advertisers get the most value from Yahoo’s extensive sports media and content capabilities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, analytical thinker, and creative problem solver who can turn sports fandom data into strategy and strategy into action.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Strategy

  • Build and implement go-to-market strategies spanning marquee sporting event sponsorships (e.g., Draft Season, Tournament Coverage, Championship Series), Fantasy integrations, high-impact media solutions, branded sports content, and emerging formats across multiple channels (written, video, live streams, and interactive).

  • Represent the Sports Group in responses to RFPs, RFIs, and proactive requests, developing clear, concise, and visually engaging pitch materials that articulate a strong value proposition to clients.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as the connective tissue across Yahoo’s Sports Group verticals and internal teams (Editorial, Fantasy, Video Studio, Product, and Commerce) to execute integrated programs.

  • Collaborate with Sports Editorial and Video teams to develop new, content-led ad solutions that balance creative integrity and fan experience with business priorities.

  • Identify sports market trends, competitive media offerings, sports betting/gaming trends, and emerging technologies that help Editorial and Product partners understand what resonates in the market.

  • Partner closely with Sales to provide exceptional client service from initial pitch through campaign execution, wrap-up, and renewal.

Storytelling & Data
  • Combine creative sports storytelling instincts with analytical rigor to craft narratives that align brand ideas with key sports marketing KPIs and measurable outcomes.

  • Understand the sports audience demographics, fandom engagement patterns, and 1P data powering the Sports Group to make insight-backed recommendations for clients.

  • Utilize AI tools to enhance creative output, streamline workflows, and boost overall productivity.

Qualifications:

Experience & Expertise

  • 5-7 years of sales, brand strategy, or sports marketing experience at a media company, agency, sports property, or tech platform with direct experience in sports media, fantasy sports, or gaming.

  • Deep understanding of sports sponsorship models, digital sports video, content marketing, digital formats, and fan engagement across on- and off-platform environments.

  • Familiarity with media data platforms like Comscore and Nielsen, and comfort with 1P audience data and sports insight tooling.

  • Proven ability to interpret sports audience data, leverage fandom research, and act on insights to drive strategic recommendations and reinforce client strategy.

  • Strong track record of pitching high-level concepts, gaining buy-in from internal stakeholders, and presenting to senior decision-makers.
