POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Business Intelligence & Analytics will be a hands-on leader responsible for delivering business intelligence, reporting, and analytics solutions across Human Capital. The role will work directly with stakeholders to understand business needs, execute one-off analyses, develop scalable self-service reporting, and lead a varied portfolio of analytics projects.

The AVP will also own the intake process for BI and analytics requests, including its ongoing modernization and day-to-day execution. The role will establish a clear and reliable way for work to enter the team, assess and clarify requests, support prioritization decisions, provide visibility into demand and capacity, and identify opportunities to reduce recurring manual work through automation and self-service solutions.

The AVP will independently own work from initial problem definition through requirements gathering, analysis, development, validation, communication, and implementation. The role will partner closely with the Head of People BI Analytics, other members of People Analytics, Human Capital stakeholders, Data Engineering, and Technology teams.

Over time, this role may grow to lead a small team of junior analysts focused primarily on Tier 1 service delivery (routine reporting tickets and recurring requests), with the AVP setting standards, reviewing quality, and developing the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Intake & demand management

  • Own and continuously improve the intake process for BI, reporting, and analytics requests - including submission, clarification, categorization, triage, tracking, and stakeholder communication.
  • Develop practical frameworks for assessing urgency, business value, effort, sensitivity, and dependencies; partner with the Head of People BI & Analytics on major prioritization and capacity tradeoffs.
  • Maintain visibility into request volumes, backlog, turnaround times, recurring demand, and available capacity; surface bottlenecks and propose remedies.
  • Identify recurring or manual requests that should be automated, standardized, or converted into self-service solutions.

Analytics & reporting delivery

  • Execute routine reporting requests and analytical requests end-to-end - from stakeholder discussion through requirements, analysis, validation, and delivery.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into clear requirements, analytical approaches, and reporting outputs.
  • Query, combine, and analyze using SQL and other analytical tools.
  • Design, develop, and maintain intuitive self-service dashboards using Tableau or comparable enterprise BI platforms.
  • Lead defined analytics projects across workforce, organizational, recruiting, talent, performance, and survey domains.
  • Synthesize findings into clear implications and practical recommendations for business stakeholders.

Partnership & product contribution

  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of People Analytics datasets, dashboards, and reporting products.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and Technology teams to define data requirements, resolve dependencies, and investigate source-data, modeling, and quality issues.
  • Document business logic, data sources, definitions, calculations, assumptions, and known limitations.
  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and communicate progress, findings, risks, and tradeoffs clearly.

Team leadership (future scope)

  • Potential to build and lead a small team of junior analysts responsible for Tier 1 service delivery - routine reporting tickets, recurring requests, and standardized outputs.
  • Define intake routing between Tier 1 (routine) and higher-tier (complex/bespoke) work, and set quality, turnaround, and documentation standards for Tier 1 delivery.
  • Coach and develop junior analysts, review their work, and create a path for them to take on progressively more complex analyses over time.
  • Balance hands-on delivery of complex work with oversight of the team's routine throughput.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience delivering business intelligence, reporting, or analytics solutions in a business or enterprise setting.
  • Demonstrated experience independently owning complex reporting, dashboard, or analytics work end-to-end - from scoping and requirements through validation and delivery.
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying, combining, and validating data across multiple structured sources.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or a comparable enterprise BI platform.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business questions into clear requirements, analytical approaches, and reporting outputs.
  • Experience designing or improving intake, triage, or demand-management processes for a high-volume analytics or reporting function.
  • Sufficient technical fluency to reason about data models, warehouses, reporting layers, and engineering dependencies, and to partner effectively with Data Engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear findings and recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or reviewing the work of junior analysts; direct people-management experience a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in People Analytics, Human Capital, HR technology, or workforce reporting.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, or comparable modern data and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with modern data application/BI tools (e.g. Sigma, Streamlit)
  • Experience partnering with a centralized or separately managed Data Engineering function.
  • Experience operating in a complex, highly regulated, or data-sensitive environment (financial services, healthcare, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data access, privacy, security, and governance requirements applicable to people data.
