The Auction Special Operations Lead oversees operations, training, and process improvements in auction sites while managing team performance and development, requiring significant travel.
The Lead for the Auction Special Operations (ASO) team will play a pivotal role in creating new processes, establishing production operations at new launches, and supporting ongoing training at existing integrations as we continue to build our aligned retail & wholesale capacity. This role will require frequent travel. This role is not visa eligible.
What you’ll be doing
- Travel to future/planned integration sites to evaluate and document existing processes and structures to determine operational opportunities and devise plans for alignment, efficiency and standardization.
- Travel to current integration sites to assess performance, provide insight and coaching to leaders and teams to improve performance and standardize processes.
- Identify, develop, test and implement continuous improvement efforts across Auction Operations and in partnership with partner operations teams (Reconditioning, Wholesale, Logistics, Market Operations, and Safe and Secure).
- Work successfully and collaboratively with cross-functional teams in search of shared wins and process improvements.
- Continue to leverage and improve on Carvana/ADESA operating standards and other work flow processes to ensure each aspect of Auction operations continues to meet speed, cost and quality objectives as the company continues to scale
- Effectively train and develop Auction teams to meet or exceed department production goals and to successfully execute the Carvana/ADESA operating system and philosophy in a new site integration environment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
- Serve as process/performance optimization coach, sharing best practices, providing feedback, implementing measurements, and standardizing operations and procedures.
- Positively reinforce and engage the ASO team, including providing appropriate training, development and coaching to the ASO team, including robust, timely, and consistent feedback.
- Learn how the ASO team operates and leverage technical knowledge and skill to identify gaps in current training efforts and provide realistic solutions our teams can execute.
- Act ethically, and portray a positive image of Carvana/ADESA by displaying the values, leadership principles, and competencies daily.

What the Job Requires

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Vocational/Technical degree preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated functional knowledge in one or more areas pertaining to ADESA’s Auction operations, procedures and workflows.
- Experience supervising/managing a team (preferably in a production environment)
- Excellent organization skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with others effectively in a professional, courteous manner.
- Willing and able to speak in front of groups as large as 20-30 people.
- Ability to maintain high volume and high-quality content in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to move in and out of vehicles regularly.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to occasionally pull and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Ability to resolve complex issues and conflicts with guidance from others.
- Requires standing for extended periods of time with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Ability to work outdoors regularly for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work overtime and on weekends.
