Primary Purpose of Position:

Support regional engineering leadership in evaluating, coordinating, and improving engineering and facilities operations across existing assets, new developments, acquisition projects, and assigned regional initiatives. Provide operational and technical support for premier office and mixed-use properties, including project execution, budget administration, vendor coordination, data analysis, and stakeholder communication.

 

Essential Duties

  • Assist the Regional Engineer, Director, Engineering, and/or VP, Engineering with engineering operations, development projects, acquisition transitions, client improvement reviews, commissioning support, and transition of completed work to property operations.

  • Support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, fire alarm, building automation/energy management, elevator, water treatment, and related base-building infrastructure.

  • Aggregate, analyze, and interpret building data, including BAS/BMS, energy, IAQ, occupancy, preventive maintenance, service call, and utility information, to support client service, cost efficiency, sustainability, and healthy building performance.

  • Assist with implementation and monitoring of regional policies, procedures, standards, inspections, audits, and compliance programs, including life safety, water management, electrical safety, preventive maintenance, loss control, and engineering operating practices.

  • Assist in organizing, soliciting, and evaluating bid proposals for technical operating services; support contract administration and vendor performance oversight, including site engineering team provider.

  • Support annual budget preparation, capital planning, repair planning, utility tracking, engineering contract cost tracking, and other building-system related financial analysis.

  • Develop and track KPIs for preventive maintenance, client request work orders, service performance, inspection completion, vendor performance, and other engineering operating metrics.

  • Review client and base building plans, specifications, submittals, reports, and field conditions; identify operational impacts, maintainability issues, design conflicts, and code or standard concerns for escalation and review.

  • Assist with capital project scoping, field verification, equipment condition assessments, due diligence, project closeout, and documentation of operating requirements and lessons learned.

  • Coordinate with property management, construction, development, leasing, clients, vendors, consultants, and site engineering teams to support safe, reliable, cost-effective, and first-class building operations.

Region Specific Functions

  • This position will support the Boston Region Life Science portfolio located in Cambridge, MA and Waltham, MA.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, building science, facilities management, construction management, or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent technical education, military, operating engineering, or relevant commercial building experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, construction, maintenance, facilities management, or premier commercial office or mixed-use building operations.

  • Commissioning, MEP consulting, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Foundational knowledge of commercial building MEP/FP systems, BAS/BMS, energy management, preventive maintenance, construction documents, and engineering operations preferred.

  • Proficiency in Excel.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, equipment documentation, reports, maintenance records, and building operating data.

  • Exposure to Power BI, CMMS/work order systems, data analytics platforms, AI tools, or other reporting tools preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Involves work of a general office nature, usually performed while seated and using a computer.

  • Requires movement between buildings, departments, mechanical/electrical rooms, roofs, construction areas, and operating spaces as needed to support engineering review and operations.

  • Vision ability must allow reading printed materials, drawings, equipment data, and digital documentation.

  • May require standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, balancing, working at heights, and working in a range of ambient or conditioned temperatures.

 

Internal and External Contacts:

  • Regularly interfaces with clients, BXP staff, vendors, construction professionals, consultants, and site engineering teams.

 

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Regional Engineer, Director, Engineering, or VP, Engineering, who provides supervision, guidance and evaluates work performance, as applicable to the regional operating structure.

 

Salary Range:

$126,000 - $172,765.  BXP offers a competitive total rewards package including base salary and annual discretionary bonus.  The range represents expected base salary; compensation will be determined based on role, skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.  Our comprehensive benefits include medical and dental coverage, a retirement savings plan with competitive company match, backup childcare, educational assistance, employee support programs, a generous commuter transit subsidy and more.
