WHOOP is seeking an Android Engineer II to help build and evolve the mobile experiences that bring WHOOP data and insights to our members. You will work closely with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineering teams to develop high-quality Android features, shape technical architecture, and improve the performance and reliability of the WHOOP app. You will have meaningful ownership across the development lifecycle, from defining technical solutions through testing, release, and ongoing optimization.
The AI Momentum team is responsible for delivering personalized recommendations to WHOOP members. As an Android Engineer II, you will develop native Android and AI features that power WHOOP's recommendation engine to drive behavior change and positive health outcomes for our members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build, test, and maintain high-quality Android product experiences using Kotlin and modern Android development practices
Partner with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineers to develop scalable solutions and define effective APIs and data contracts across the WHOOP platform
Contribute to Android architecture and technical decision-making, including modular design, application performance, maintainability, and documentation
Monitor application performance, crash data, member feedback, and product metrics to identify issues and continuously improve reliability and the member experience
Contribute to the Android release lifecycle, including builds, build variants, signing, testing and distribution through Firebase, and releases through the Google Play Store
Support the growth of the engineering team through thoughtful code reviews, knowledge sharing, technical documentation, and onboarding of fellow engineers
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience building, testing, debugging, and delivering native Android applications in a professional environment
Proficiency with Kotlin and familiarity with modern Android technologies such as Coroutines, Jetpack libraries, ViewModel, Flow, Navigation, Room, Retrofit, and OkHttp
Strong understanding of Android application architecture, lifecycle, components, and platform design principles
Experience designing mobile applications using scalable architectural and modular design patterns such as MVVM
Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and collaborating with backend engineers on data contracts
Product-oriented mindset with empathy for the member experience and an interest in using data and feedback to improve products
Ability to collaborate effectively, communicate technical concepts clearly, and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000 - $175,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training. In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package. These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
