Wayfair to make up to 1,000 new hires. The online furniture retailer is opening three new engineering sites in Austin, the San Francisco Bay Area and Toronto. At each location, Wayfair plans to hire 200 new team members across data science, engineering, analytics, product management and design. The company currently employs about 16,000 people. Regent raised $9M. The new capital for the transportation company will go toward the development of its seaglider vehicle, a vessel that combines the flight and speed of a plane with the docking capabilities of a boat. The electric aircraft is projected for completion by 2025. In the meantime, Regent is growing its team with seven available positions. Zip Run pulled in $2.3M. With its social equity and cannabis delivery platform, Zip Run is looking forward to delivering adult-use cannabis in the Boston area. Its seed funding round was led by investor Mollitiam Capital. It also anticipated growing out its team with delivery drivers as well as engineers for its e-commerce platform. [Built In Boston]
Jobcase acquired Upward.net. Working to help people get hired faster, the Cambridge-based social platform is expanding its network and capabilities after its acquisition of job matching company Upward.net. Jobcase has about 20 million monthly active unique users and will be able to grow its digital presence by 30 percent following the acquisition. [PR Newswire]
Algorand pledges to make blockchain eco-friendly. The company announced a team-up with ClimateTrade, a company focused on transparency and traceability for CO2 emissions. Algorand is working to attain and retain a carbon-negative network. Toward this goal, partnering with ClimateTrade allows the companies to implement a way to monitor Algorand’s carbon footprint on-chain per epoch. [BusinessWire]
