MedTouch is seeking Bostonians who take initiative and have a passion for healthcare. The company creates digital marketing solutions like healthcare content and UX design — all with the patient experience at the forefront of their work.

Vice President of Delivery Laurie Richards discussed how MedTouch actively promotes a healthy work-life balance:

What does your company look for in prospective hires? Are there unique skills, traits or attributes

We’ve discovered a couple top strengths that people who are happy and successful here consistently demonstrate. We’ve set out to identify these traits in our prospective hires. First, we embrace teammates who take initiative to innovate and problem solve. People who have new ideas and are accountable for seeing them through to completion are some of our top performers. Second, we appreciate new team members who have a passion for improving healthcare — it’s at the core of what we do and our teams contribute to the significant impact that our work creates. Lastly, we seek candidates who are enthusiastic, cross-functional collaborators. Although it can be time intensive to involve numerous teams in a process improvement initiative, the outcome will be more robust and effective.

We have the usual food and beverage perks in our office, but promoting a balanced life is one of our primary focuses. This value is manifested through benefits like a 401(k) match program, flexible schedules, treadmill desks on site, discounts to local attractions and even fitness reimbursements. We want our team members to be engaged in their work while also maintaining a vibrant life outside of the office with time for community, vacation, friends and family. On top of a work-life balance, one of my favorite initiatives this year is our Lunch and Learn program. During the L&L hour, we have the opportunity to hear from our own small- to medium- enterprises and other healthcare experts.

Cloud-based work execution platform Smartsheet empowers organizations to be more efficient by planning, tracking, automating and reporting on work. But the empowerment doesn’t stop with their customers.

Senior Director of Engineering Mahesh Guruswamy discussed how Smartsheet employees get a strong dose of ownership and empowerment in their daily work.

What does your company look for in prospective hires? Are there unique skills, traits or attributes?

Outside of technical competencies, we like to hire folks who act and think like owners. We like to see if prospective hires can put on their CEO hats when making decisions. Additionally, we seek out individuals who are not afraid to talk openly about their failures and what they learned from those experiences. We believe that the ability to learn from failures is an essential stepping stone to learning how to innovate. As a company, we are pushing down decision-making to the individual teams. The avenue for success among the teams will be a strong sense of ownership.

We have the stability of a large company but none of the bureaucracy.”

Outside of the regular perks and benefits that other technology companies offer, the biggest perk that Smartsheet can offer is a seat on a quickly growing public company. Our growth has significantly accelerated since the IPO and I don't see us slowing down anytime soon. We have the stability of a large company but none of the bureaucracy. Decentralized decision-making combined with financial stability and little bureaucracy, makes Smartsheet an exciting place to work.

According to Salary Finance, people with financial stress are almost six times more likely not to finish their daily tasks at work. That's why Salary Finance partners with employers to help employees get a handle on their finances — improving employee productivity and improving employer’s bottom lines.

Human Resources and Talent Manager Lauren Wentzell shared why they’re looking to hire people who are passionate about the company’s mission — and fast (the company has plans to triple their headcount in 2019).

What does your company look for in prospective hires? Are there unique skills, traits or attributes?

Salary Finance knows people are at the heart of an organization's success. When sourcing, we look for three things — a passion for the mission, a commitment to accountability and a champion of our values and culture.

We hire people who will do the job well, who can positively contribute to the Salary Finance culture, and who are passionate about our mission and vision as a company. We look for hires who are driven to lead a successful career and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. It’s important that they are passionate about technology and social impact. They should want to be part of a business that delivers a meaningful difference to society. As an early-stage startup, we look for self-starters of the world who are enthusiastic and excited by the prospect of working in a fast-paced and challenging environment. We are scaling fast and anticipate to triple our headcount this year. Now’s the perfect time to join Salary Finance.

We have found that flexibility is the key to increased employee morale, engagement and company commitment.”

Employee well-being is a top priority for us, especially as members of the HR and talent industries. We provide all full-time employees with a comprehensive healthcare plan that includes medical, dental and vision coverage. We also value the importance of a positive work-life balance. We have found that flexibility is the key to increased employee morale, engagement and company commitment. We provide all full time employees with 20 days of paid time off to unplug and recharge and we give them their birthday off each year. Working from home is encouraged; we allow employees to work remotely up to one day per week.

We enjoy celebrating success as a company and are always planning fun social outings to celebrate our achievements whether it be a new joiner happy hour, champagne and a balloon to congratulate an SF anniversary, or a team dinner just to say “thank you” for a job well done.

forward finance team

Fintech company Forward Financing is recruiting the city’s “A players” to join their collaborative, fast-paced team. The company provides capital to small businesses using their proprietary technology for same-day funding.

We caught up with Director of People and Culture Shannon Braley to learn more about the company and what they look for in new hires.

What does your company look for in prospective hires? Are there unique skills, traits or attributes?

Boston is one of the best (if not the best) places to hire, recruit and retain top performing people. The education level, motivation and responsibility of Bostonians is second to none. These outstanding factors have allowed us to grow quickly with a terrific team,” said Co-Founder and CEO Justin Bakes.

We are always looking for passionate and coachable “A” players who excel in a fast-paced collaborative environment. In more experienced roles, we look for progression within a company or career, someone with notable achievements, and strengths to enable success at the company and in the role. For more junior hires, we look for indications of high standards, strong attention to detail and self-starter tendencies.

We often ask our employees, “What can we offer outside our generous 401(k) match, competitive compensation, catered lunches, happy hours, snacks and espresso?”

A few additional perks and events that we think are pretty cool include our monthly sports raffles for tickets to Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox games (playoffs included); summer Friday’s to get a head start on weekends in May through September; and giving back to the community with paid volunteer days. We also encourage our employees to stay healthy with our comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans, on top of our gym reimbursement.
