The Role

Do you want to be part of a team working on building critical business capabilities needed in a rapidly growing segment of the managed solutions market? As key members of the Wealth Advisory Managed Solutions team at Fidelity Institutional, we are responsible for partnering with distribution partners to develop, implement and support the diverse set of investment solutions for our intermediary clients. This role will be responsible for supporting the development and management of direct indexing, factors, active equity, and fixed income SMA solutions. We are looking for a talented, visionary, hard-working leader who will join the FI Wealth Advisory Managed Solutions (WAMS) product team to lead the Custom SMA offering.

We are seeking a Vice President, Head of Custom SMA Product who will support the strategy, design, implementation and ongoing support of Fidelity Institutional’s SMA discretionary managed SMA solutions across direct indexing, factors, equity and fixed income. 

In this VP role, you will manage a team of product leaders with the following core responsibilities:

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Institutional SMA offerings including direct indexing, factors, active equity and fixed income solutions.
  • Make strategic decisions about investments and business opportunities, focusing on maximizing return on investment, understanding market dynamics and competition, and aligning products and services with customer needs.
  • Lead new product development efforts related to equity and fixed income SMA solutions distributed to clients both on and off Fidelity platform. Develop product portfolio strategy including vision, target outcomes & KPIs, and strategic portfolio roadmap.
  • Drive the development and execution of SMA product initiatives while continuously improving and supporting the current product offerings. Own, manage, and prioritize the business portfolio, inclusive of products, solutions, experiences, capabilities, and platforms. Align portfolio with target business and customer outcomes across product horizons and tech roadmaps.
  • Continuously assess product market fit, monitor usage and adoption, and address the needs of customers and the internal and/or external market
  • Partner with Fidelity’s distribution channels to develop and cultivate a pipeline of new investment solution initiatives. Liaison to distribution partners to gather feedback and provide support for an enhanced client experience.
  • Develop compelling business cases to help with prioritization while influencing new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering / technology partners to refine product roadmap and participate in planning sessions and product / solution reviews to provide feedback and clarity
  • Provide overall SMA and managed solutions product management support and drive resolution of client experience issues, business risks and process impediments
  • Resource for SMA subject matter expertise and product oversight, product policies, and business acceptance
  • Communicate investment philosophy, process, resources and results to internal partners and will work closely with product professionals across Fidelity's distribution channels to support product positioning, product marketing, and product development.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • BS degree required.  MBA and/or CFA preferred.
  • 15+ years of financial services experience, preferably in product management, product development, or product strategy roles.
  • Experience with SMA offering development, separate accounts, manager traded and model delivered SMA offerings.
  • Understanding of applications supporting TAMPs or 3rd party and previous work with platform development teams
  • Solid understanding of the financial intermediary marketplace and all aspects of a brokerage offering, the competitive landscape of the managed accounts industry, and familiarity with Fidelity products and services
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required ensuring analyses are thoroughly vetted and sound
  • Perform data analysis to identify critical client insights, recognize product usage trends and uncover opportunities for improving process efficiencies for our clients
  • Interpersonal and Influencing skills are critical along with a proven track record of successfully engaging with all levels of management across multiple business units
  • Effective in communicating business requirements and collaborating with technology partners to implement platform solutions
  • Communication skills and the ability to clearly, concisely and persuasively present sophisticated proposals, issues and arguments, both in writing and verbally.
  • Project management skills required to successfully drive projects across the company and run critical dependencies.
  • Work collaboratively across the Fidelity enterprise and possess strong influence management skills while maintaining productive long-term working relationships
  • Manage internal and external communications related to assigned product responsibilities

This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Head of WAMS Product.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $130,000-$264,000 per year.  

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
