The VP, Digital Business Development Leader at Hiscox is responsible for driving the profitable growth of Hiscox’s SME insurance products through our digital partnership channel, leading a team of business development managers and enablement personnel by working with new, existing, and prospective digital distribution partners. This role will build and drive a best-in-class sales practice, develop and enhance deep partner relationships, and deliver innovative solutions that reflect a deep understanding of our partners’ goals.


The ideal candidate has a general manager mindset and can solve ambiguous problems, lead and develop a team of business development professionals, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders seamlessly, own a P&L, and deliver planned revenue for Hiscox’s digital partnership channel.


Success is measured with a balanced scorecard with financial goals and KPIs, in addition to behaviors that deliver and lead on the Hiscox values. The role will play a vital role in leading business growth, expanding market presence, growing partner relationships, and ensuring long-term success for Hiscox US.

Responsibilities:


  • P&L Accountability: Demonstrate a proven ability to manage an insurance P&L and a track record of consistent profitable growth.
  • Partnership and/or Agency Management: Existing experience with digital, alternative, and traditional insurance distribution partners, as well as building and maintaining strong relationships with external executive stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Insurance Distribution Technology: Deep knowledge and experience utilizing various insurance distribution technologies and go-to-market motions, including agent portals, APIs, MCPs, multi-carrier platforms, embedded iFrame/native UX, and lead generation/call center models.
  • Channel and Distribution Strategy: Experience identifying strategic direction and setting plans for execution, both with individual distribution partners and across entire distribution channels.
  • Innovation: A deep understanding of the evolving SME insurance landscape, while keeping a pulse on emerging players, opportunities, and trends to deliver new and creative solutions for Hiscox.
  • Sales Leadership: Extensive and proven sales leadership, building and setting best-in-class sales activities and practices, coaching a team of business development professionals, and fostering a culture that drives results.
  • People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage the sales team to achieve individual and team sales targets. Actively coach and develop the sales acumen of business development managers. Implement operating routines and best practices that drive consistency and accountability across the business development function.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Minimum bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills to help influence internal and external key stakeholders in driving strategic growth.
  • Knowledge of insurance distribution operations, regulations, and overall carrier/agency market dynamics.


Additional Requirements:


  • Travel: Ability to travel 35% of the time.
  • Experience: Proven track record of at least 5–7 years in an insurance sales leadership role.

**Please note: This position is hybrid and requires two (2) days in the office weekly**


Salary Range: $175-$225k

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.

Hiscox USA underwrites small- to mid-market commercial risks through brokers, other insurers and distribution partners and directly to businesses. In 2026, gross written premiums for the segment will represent over $1bn. Circa 50% of the portfolio comprises small commercial business sold either online or through intermediaries, and the remaining 50% represents traditionally traded business intermediated through broking partners including Professions, Crisis Management and Specialist lines such as Media & Entertainment.
