Our team of bookkeepers, accountants, controllers, and financial analysts provides comprehensive finance department support for growing businesses — from accounting operations and financial reporting to FP&A, budgeting, and investor materials.

We partner with companies across industries, with a specialization in real estate, hospitality, and consumer products. Our mission is to bring clarity, structure, and strategy to our clients’ financial operations so they can focus on scaling their businesses.

As part of our continued growth, we’re hiring a Vice President of Tax — a senior-level role for an experienced US-based CPA who will lead, build, and scale our tax practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow Howard’s tax function, ensuring top-quality client service and operational excellence.
  • Delivery of all tax advisory and compliance services for businesses, including partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, and other business entities.
  • Act as a trusted strategic advisor on complex tax matters, including structuring, transactions, and long-term planning.
  • Collaborate with our accounting teams to deliver integrated financial solutions and streamlined tax processes.
  • Implement consistent standards, leverage technology, and drive process improvement.
  • Identify and capture growth opportunities across existing and prospective client relationships.
  • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing tax team.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to establish and execute Howard’s long-term tax strategy.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in business taxation, ideally with a large national or top regional firm.
  • Proven success leading tax engagements and building strong client relationships.
  • Expertise across corporate & partnership taxation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in growing and developing teams.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, and highly execution-driven mindset.

What We Offer

  • Senior leadership opportunity with direct impact on Howard’s growth and client success.
  • Competitive compensation including quarterly performance-based bonuses and attractive commission structure on new business.
  • Remote-first flexibility with a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Opportunity to build and lead a tax practice from the ground up within a fast-growing firm.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
