Purpose of the role:
We are seeking an experienced UX Designer to lead, maintain, and manage our organizational multi-brand design system. You will bring systems thinking, strategic expertise, and craftsmanship to the design details that define Takeda's digital experiences.
In this role, you will design and manage cohesive, scalable system-level web and app components, patterns, and documentation for Takeda's Toro Design System. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will deliver consistent and inclusive designs that enhance patient, HCP, and employee workflows while driving the continuous evolution of the design system roadmap. Additionally, you will oversee the development, governance, and application of the design system, offering essential guidance and support to both internal and external teams.
Responsibilities:
Design System Development & Maintenance
• Develop and maintain scalable components, design patterns for the Toro Design System in Figma, enabling Takeda teams to create cohesive, user-centered digital health products.
• Create detailed design specifications and usage guidelines that designers and engineers can reference to ensure consistent implementation.
• Work closely with designers, product managers, developers, and user researchers to deliver high-quality, accessible designs that scale effectively across user workflows.
• Influence the design system roadmap and product backlog to drive the evolution of the library, ensuring alignment with Takeda's goals and standards.
• Design and enhance system elements based on feedback, data, and usability testing.
• Ensure consistent style guides, typography, and branding are implemented across diverse product types and platforms.
• Partner with product teams to develop sub-brand styling, themes, and design frameworks.
• Work closely with developers and stakeholders to ensure smooth system implementation and scalability.
• Build enterprise-ready scalability to support growing digital product operations while maintaining governance, compliance, and version control.
Governance & Quality Assurance
• Provide governance support for contributions of new components, patterns, and tokens to the design system.
• Evaluate reusable code outputs for design quality and optimal usability.
• Collect and analyze user and team requirements to inform system updates and improvements.
• Define and promote standards and best practices to enhance the adoption and usability of the design systems.
Team Support & Education
• Lead onboarding sessions for internal and external teams.
• Organize training workshops, demos, and community-sharing events.
• Develop community resources, including tutorials, surveys, and interactive initiatives.
• Analyze engagement data to assess adoption rates and identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
• 3-5 years of experience building, contributing, and managing a design system at enterprise organizations - a big plus for experience in Pharma.
• Portfolio with case studies illustrating comparable work on design systems at mid/large-scale organizations.
• Mastery of Figma as a design tool; consider yourself to be a Figma expert-expertise in other tools, including Miro, Adobe Creative Suite, and design system platforms.
• Understands and demonstrates systematic design thinking
• Understanding of front-end development practices such as HTML, CSS, and React frameworks (preferred).
• Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
• Strong understanding of design processes, the implications for responsive, and accessibility guidelines.
• Experience balancing multiple projects and timelines independently.
• Advanced English language skills.
