The Role 

As the Area Operations Manager for UK & Ireland (UK&I), you will lead and drive for timely delivery of our customer’s goods over Rail and Road, connecting it to & from our Ocean ProductIn addition to the end-to-end execution of our Less than Container Load (LCL) product.   

The role is responsible for the UK & Ireland Area (UK&I), reporting into the Head of Operations for Europe, and is part of both the Europe Operations leadership team as well as the UK&I Area Leadership Team (ALT).   

In addition to leading the Area Operations team to deliver safe, high quality & cost efficient solutions for Intermodal & LCL, you will also represent Supply Chain Management, Customs & Cold Chain Logistics operational performance towards the ALT.  This requires building & maintaining an engaged, high-performing team capable of collaborating in a matrix environment to achieve the desired customer, cost and standardization outcomes, in line with internal and local regulations.  Furthermore, you will be expected to support the Area & Product teams in developing & implementing products, and assist in driving the integration of these & other Maersk products to create a seamless customer experience – leading to a business which expands and grows every year. You will also be expected to support the Customer Experience (CX) organization in issue and claims resolution and the financial settlement processes for the products within scope. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Ensure consistent high-quality delivery of all products within operational scope, in line with internal standards and customer promises  

  • Strive to provide visibility to customers in cooperation with CX on milestones where required (end-to-end across products)  

  • Support the integration efforts across all Maersk products to enable a seamless end-to-end delivery network across modes of transport  

  • Ensure Area Operations  colleagues are equipped to operate in line with global policies, safety standards and local regulations (incl. training, coaching, development)  

  • Manage performance across the products in scope and ensure goals and targets are met  

  • Create an environment for colleagues to grow and thrive, through empowerment, engagement & trust 

  • Ensure own and 3rd party operations are executed efficiently and in line with cost and quality ambitions  

  • Implement relevant cost metrics across products in order to performance manage the delivery networks  

  • Create an environment where best practice sharing within, and across Areas are enabled (e.g. benchmarking or similar) 

  • Create a continuous improvement culture, always looking for opportunities to optimise our execution and positively impact the customer experience  

We are looking for: 

  • Ability to lead, coach and motivate teams towards a shared vision with clear goals  

  • Ability to operate successfully in a complex environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders across several levels  

  • Ability to influence stakeholders, both internal and external, to achieve our business objectives  

  • Strong prioritization and delegation skills  

  • Ability to build a strong Integrator narrative supporting the journey to create seamless cargo management solutions across modes of transport  

  • Drive customer centricity and strike the right balance between a quality strategy in a low margin environment 

This role can be based from any of our UK locations.
