About the Role
As a Documentation Writer contractor at Contextual AI, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving comprehensive documentation for our cutting-edge Enterprise AI platform during a focused 3-month engagement. You'll work closely with Engineering, Product, and Developer Relations teams to ensure our technical documentation is clear, accurate, and accessible to developers, technical decision-makers, and end users. The ideal candidate combines strong technical writing skills with the ability to understand complex AI/ML concepts and translate them into user-friendly documentation that drives successful platform adoption. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our documentation ecosystem using modern tools like Mintlify.
What you'll do:
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including API references, user guides, quick-start tutorials, troubleshooting guides, and implementation documentation
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to document new features, APIs, and platform updates, ensuring documentation stays current with product releases
- Develop and maintain documentation standards, style guides, and content governance processes to ensure consistency across all technical materials
- Work with Product and UX teams to create user-centered documentation that addresses real user needs and pain points identified through user research and feedback
- Review and edit technical content created by engineers and other team members, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to documentation standards
- Optimize documentation for discoverability and usability, implementing information architecture best practices and conducting content audits
- Gather feedback from users, support teams, and sales to continuously improve documentation quality and identify content gaps
- Manage documentation toolchain and publishing workflows using Mintlify, working with technical teams to maintain and optimize our documentation infrastructure
- Create visual aids, diagrams, and multimedia content to enhance written documentation and improve user comprehension
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams to ensure technical documentation aligns with messaging and supports the customer journey
What we're seeking:
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in software, AI/ML, or enterprise technology environments
- Strong ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse technical audiences
- Experience with documentation tools and platforms, particularly Mintlify or similar modern documentation platforms (GitBook, Confluence, Notion, static site generators)
- Familiarity with software development workflows, version control systems (Git), and API documentation best practices
- Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts and enterprise software platforms, with eagerness to deepen technical knowledge
- Excellent research skills and ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Experience with content management systems, markup languages (Markdown, HTML), and documentation-as-code workflows
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Portfolio demonstrating high-quality technical writing samples across different content types and audiences
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in technical content
